Description
Working with a project engineer, you will assist in developing and applying new processes and equipment for a wide variety of petrochemical and chemical applications. Sets up complex test equipment, oversees installation, checkout and startup of new equipment. Participates heavily in the design of equipment. Works on prototype equipment. Provides significant technical direction. Provides field support with minimal guidance. Design, fabricate, start-up, operate, and maintain bench, pilot, and commercial scale equipment. Conduct non-routine experiments with minimal guidance. Writes SOPs and leads pre-startup safety reviews. Collect, analyze, interpret, reduce data, perform calculations, prepare reports and other documentation and make recommendations. Oversee equipment installation and operation in the field. Relevant equipment may include high temperature reactors; boilers; heat exchangers; pressurized vessels; filtration systems; chromatographic columns; analytical instruments; and PLCs. Up to 25% travel may be required.

This position may be filled as a salary level 4 or 5 based on the skills of the qualified candidate.

Qualifications

An Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a science or technology field or equivalent relevant experience and 10+ years of related hands-on equipment fabrication experience are required. Candidates must have experience fabricating basic mechanical systems that include components such as pipes, tubing, pumps, valves, heaters, chillers, tanks, mixers, dryers, compressors, controllers, etc. Desirable skills include project management, machine shop experience, labview/PLC programming, AutoCad experience, data acquisition, electrical wiring and troubleshooting, and welding. Basic computer skills, including MS Office and the Internet, are required. Experience with industrial gases is a plus. A track record of personal accountability and success throughout your professional career is required. Successful candidates will be creative with initiative and drive and possess good interpersonal and communication skills.

It’s not even the subject matter that counts really…it’s learning how to learn in your own particular way, networking with the (presumably) brightest of your age group, bouncing ideas off each other in a forum where you won’t get fired for it, all that good stuff.
