How-to: Building an in-car camera mount

For those that want to record in-car movies, here’s a cheap way to
make yourself a mount. Read the article here:

I turned my NX2000 into a camera car once:

Two Videos:
The first one is JUST the car cam on the front of the NX driving through a great road near town. I was playing with video effects in “Vegas” so it starts a .5x speed and ends at 2x speed as well as those weird over exposure effects etc…

The second one we used a buddy’s acclaim (the mount was NO WHERE NEAR AS STABLE on it as it was on the NX… go nissan quality!) to film the NX from the front and the back. I then edited in the footage from the first shoot (2 weeks before) with the new one.

I’m hoping to make a “short film” or something… maybe with a story and have fun with different shots etc…
Could always use some extras

WOW the first video looks like a video right out of gran turismo!!!

Awesome footage!

wow that is soo cool

Hehe, talk about hardcore.

I was looking into heavy-duty suction cups for a mount, but they were
kinda expensive. :frowning:

Use one BIG Dend Puller suction cup.

Heres an idea for nice top mount camera.

  • Take a camera place it on your roof
  • Take Duct Tape and Duct Tape the Camera to the Roof
  • Press Record
  • Go Drving :stuck_out_tongue:

I have power roof (sliding) so I could prolly build a bracket and clamp it
onto a partially opened sunroof. Hrm, I’ll do thta next year.

Nice, we gotta think of a way to mount a camera to my one pice seats.

I actually just finished building CarCam 2.0 today
i designed it to be attached to the side of the car so we can get those COOL side wheel etc shots as well as decent interior shots too.
I’ll probably do some filming this weekend, but tommorow at work I’ll take some pictures of the mount and post them up.

Good stuff. Care to post how much it cost in parts to bulid it?

I’m not 100% sure…

I think I spent about $12 on the Square Aluminum tubing (about 48" or so)
didn’t really need all of it.
A 90 degree angle of Aluminum… i think it was $5.00 about 36" length
4 GOOD suction cups were $16 ($8 for a pair)
and then just an assortment of bolts etc which I scrounged but probably would have been a couple bucks…

Oh and I bought strapping, that weaved nylon stuff, to hold the car cam down (cause would ANY of you actually trust just suction to hold camera equipment to your car?)

The only downside is the suction cups are really hard to press down and I’m worried I’ll dent my door… I’m going to have to see if I can figure out a technique to get them down without a lot of force… maybe hold up an edge or something…

Ya try holding up the outer edges and placing the center flat on the door and letting go.
