cut the p/s belt … the fastest way… ~
!OMG, Good call!
I guess a more apt question would be, if I remove the pump where do I find a belt to fit the crank and water pump?
they are 2 different belts?
at least on the sr and dohc cars they are
GT
Doesn’t the belt that runs the Power Steering loop around the crank to the pully that turns the clutch fan and then loops around the power steering pump?
Isn’t the pully that turns the clutch fan also the water pump?
Yeah that’s the water pump.
I’ve read you can remove the PS pump, get rid of the crap inside it, and just reinstall it as a pulley.
Hmm … the KAs don’t use a serpentine belt to my knowledge
I’m pretty sure it has a dedicated PS belt.
My S12 did, and that’s all I did. The seals were leaking really badly, faster than I could add fluid.
I took off the pump and belt just to keep the pump noise away, and that was almost 2 years ago.
I know it’s supposedly bad to run a PS rack dry, but there’s likely still a fair bit of fluid in there lol
Just cut the belt the P/S on the DOHC’s have their own belt.
:bsflag: Read the FSM!
Do not cut the belt on the DOHC! Read above, the belt runs the water pump as well…
