How-to: Make Your Own High Flow Stock Air Box

I was at the scrap yard on saturday with andre and we thought it would be interesting to cut some speed holes in the stock air box.
Here are some pix.

The big wuartion is…
Can you feel a difference? Does it sound better? Did you put a filter in there?

DRE

you could also ust take the hole top of so all you have is the bottom peice and clamps holding the filter on, that was all you see is just air filter

Or just remove some of the restrictive piping that goes to the bottom of the air box.

but wate, imnot looking at my car so i dont know if i am remembering right but doesent the air come from the bottem up through the filter into the intake to maF?
so by making those holes are you not allowing non filterd air into you motor?

The MAF is on the top piece, the piece Adam carved is the bottom one.
Remouving the Y piping will notmatch the air flow gained from this perticular contraption.

DRE

that was the bottom?

ooooo ok, i thought it was the top of the air box, my mistake.

im going to use a high flow bounty dryer sheet for the filter.

i heard that works great. makes your engine bounty fresh and static free!

It works great but make sure you don’t use the low flow sheets, cuz then people will think you’re an idiot.

Well bounty sheets failed so i took my stock air filter tore out all the paper and got one of my moms (new) pantyhose and cut both legs off.
Slid them over the stock filter and Voila? (I dont think thats how you spell it but bah well)
There you have it a high flow stock filter to compliment a high flow stock air box. :stuck_out_tongue:

^^^^ thats hilarious!!!

For the love of gawd man, get a proper filter!!!

DRE

Bah well, its gotta higher flow rate than K&N :stuck_out_tongue:

Im willing to buy that and try it out on the 323. $100 DOllars!

Ya?

Ill make you one honestly its sooo sick and it only cost me $4.95 for the pantyhose.

but is it still safe for the car???

who cares its a 150$ KA24E!! lol!

thats trick!

i’d love to try that, but i already got a k&n filter.

I got a spare filter box here though, what do you think of, cutting the whole bottom off, bending a ‘heat sheild’ out of aluminum, and riviting it to the sides of the box, that way you could have the whole bottom of the box open.

Maybe that’ll be my project this weekend

Correction $300 KA24E

Its not the engine that will be hurting but the MAF.

i cut the bottom off my air box back when i got it, so all thats left is the part that holds the air filter.
