How to silence"key in ignition" beeping? '95 Civic

I’ve had about enough of this thing beeping at me every time I open my door for a minute with the key in the ignition. How to I disconnect or destroy it? I’ve heard it’s a fuse but I don’t see one that controls only that. I know the actual beeper is under the dash but I can’t tell exactly where. If I knew what it looked like I could disable it for good. Thanks.

You can probably silence it by taking the key out of the ignition.

In my miata it was simple…just unscrew the plug in the door, take it out. I cut the wire and wrapped it up in electrical tape so it would never make noise again. Reinstall the plug so it look normal. Repeat on passenger side.

For you it might be different. lol

there might be a wire form the ignition switch u can cut…i am not familiar with ur wiring diagrams though

For the miata, I think I could have pulled a fuse but for me it was easier to just do the plug thing in the door rather than find the right fuse.

it’s probably a separate speaker, just find it and smash it.

Just hope it isn’t an RX7 and have 30 different wires going to the chime lol

Fuck all those wires lol.

I would, but I can’t find it- it’s somewhere in the clusterfuck of wires under the column, but I can’t tell where the sound is coming from. Maybe someone can find a pic of what it looks like. I would rig the trigger in the door jamb, but then my interior lights won’t go on when I open the door. I did that ghetto mod on my last car and got sick of having to turn the dome light on manually.

just cut the keysense wire from the key cylinder …

im not posting the pics but here is the link http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2011875

Default HOW TO: Remove the key in ignition/headlights on warning beeper.
The annoying beeper that reminds you that you have left your key in the ignition or your headlights on is inside you Integrated Control Unit (ICU) that is on the back side of your fuse panel under the dash. This can easily be removed.

DISCLAIMERAttempt this modification at your own risk. I will not be held responsible if you hurt or kill yourself doing this. While this a simple process, anytime you mess with electricity and airbags, you must be careful. DISCLAIMER

First, as always, disconnect the negative battery cable under the hood.

Remove the lower dash cover from under the steering column to reveal the fuse box. Remove the two 10mm bolts on either side.

Disconnect the connectors as shown.

Gently, rotate the fuse box around to you can gain access to the back of it. Remove the connector shown on the far left of the picture below.

Rotate the fuse box around a little more and remove the ICU from the back of the fuse box. You have to pry on either side to get it to come loose. It is easier if you pry from the end opposite the connector you removed earlier.

Here is the back of the ICU removed from the fuse box. On the lower right of the case, you can see the hole to allow the beeper to sound in the cabin.

And the front.

After gently prying open the ICU case, you can see the circuit board that is inside. The round black object in the top left corner is the beeper itself.

Here is a shot of the board from the back.

Carefully desolder the two joints (circled in red above) that hold the beeper unit in and remove it. Here’s how it looks from the front with the beeper removed.

Here is a pic of the beeper removed from the board.

And another.

Now reassemble the ICU and re-install it in the fuse box, reconnect everything and you are all set.

Put your key in the ignition and open the door and enjoy the sound of silence.

That’s what I needed thanks! And yes, I will go through all that trouble to disable this thing.

there is a better way, reach up under the dash by your left knee and unplug the beeper easy to change back if you ever wanted to.
