wow, that is an old a$$ drill motor! but looks nice.
you can get a sending units and tanks at hamburg radiator on scranton road in hamburg prolly pretty cheap
I’m in Rochester though. I’m going to see what I can find for a factory piece first and go from there.

The new piece set into place. Looks like it should be easy to bolt on with 4-6 bolts per side. I’ll be taking detailed photos in case anyone wants to replicate this (not worth the work unless you’re already going to remove the piece.

uh, if you bolt that in, make some plate steel flanges for each end (4 flanges total) weld the flanges into place, then bolt the flanges to each other
considering its one of the few parts that will keep a telephone pole out of the engine bay, its better to make the mounts to strong then to weak
Stock, it’s flimsy as hell. I could EASILY kick through it. I wouldnt be concerned with adding extra flanges or bracing. The 5 series unbolts the same way too.

after you posted that, i went back and counted the spot welds
wtf … that piece adds about as much strutural rigidity as a coat of paint does

Yup. It was a huge pain in my ass to take off for basically cosmetic reasons only. Oh well. Need a place to latch the hood, I guess…
When moving the car around to put it on the trailer, I grabbed ahold of it thinking it was a structural member. Just leaning a bit of weight into it was enough to flex it a lot and probably bend it some more.
Weaksauce times 10. But, on the other hand, at least the only thing wrecked didn’t matter.
Damn, cass looks like he is sweating from working so hard :lolsign:
I know I should read more into this swap but…
How does the shifter location line up with the stock one?

its better if he sits. he starts sweating, and the place smells like bacon. Than you want to eat, and not get any work done.

Stock camaro lever is probably 2-3" too far forward. With a mustang bent shift handle ($30 for a nice one), it centers the knob. The early guys ground off part of the opening to make room, but I shouldn’t have to now.
Nice job cant wait to see this thing driving around. I Might have to stop at mikes sometime in the summer and see all these sick cars. Also what shift lever from a mustang? I think my brother might have one lying around
That fuel pump is a mother to get out, it has tiny screws/bolts/ holding it in, and if you strip them you have to drill the heads out, and try to “unscrew” them by just grabbing the little bit of stem that is left. You won’t want to drill through it, because all the crap will fall into the tank.
Your best bet might be to take the tank right out and drain it. Once you have that cover off, the parts cleaner should do a nice job on it, otherwise just sandblast it. Also I think it goes without saying that you should use new screws to put it back in place. Also the Fuel filter is located in a real shitty spot. Depending on how you run your fuel line you might wanna relocate it.
I believe the Fuel door has an “emergency” handle somewhere in the trunk just in case the lever in the front gets stuck, or breaks.
Also that front IC support looks like it was removed, you might want to at least stick a piece of angle iron in there to tie the front together, unless the new engine “cradle” will take care of that.

Cass is good for picking up heavy things though! A spot I lack in

Yeah, I got about half of the screws out, waiting to get an impact screwdriver to do the rest, which should save them from stripping.
Fuel filter will be external AN fitting inline style.
Not sure about the emergency handle, I wish I had known about it. I didn’t see anything back there when I was fiddling with it. Hopefully I can figure out how to fix it back to stock…ugh.
Where would the IC support normally be? I need to find some photos of an engineless stock FD to compare what I’m doing to…

I’m looking at an MGW one, I guess there are others that work too. Tri-ax…not sure what else. It needs to be for a T56 and I only need the lever, not the base assembly (it won’t bolt up to a Camaro T56). Let me know what you have!
He told me he had a stock shifter lying around but not for the t56 its for the tremec 35?? whatever it is, and I think he said he had another shifter but he would have to look for it. I told him you needed just the lever and it had to be for a t56 but he thinks it might work with the one he has
Well, a small update. Haven’t gotten a lot accomplished, or at least it doesn’t seem that way. I put on the new brake calipers to finish the brake system, so that is nice.
Quick photo comparing the stock brakes to a set of 993TT (Big Reds) that a friend has for his 951
Now I have a set of HP+ front pads that I’ll be running for now, with ATE Super Blue fluid when the time comes. Should be good enough to get started with at least.
A friend of mine started messing with the gas door release and fixed it, which totally made my weekend. I was NOT looking forward to dealing with that.
Put the new fuel pump in and set the housing back into the tank. Next comes getting hardware to replace the ruined stock stuff and figuring out a bit better fuel line setup than what I have now. I want to get the pressure regulator up in front of the car instead of in the rear as it was set up for.
I also started to string the wiring for the battery relocation, but I’m not sure where to connect the positive to up front. Here are a couple of my options.
I also got in my steering wheel, ordered the hub for it and got my power steering pump and modified the spring in it to run a lower rack pressure.
A gratuitous shot from mpd47 of our workplace
boooooooooooo!!! lol j/k, should be really torquey. good luck and i wanna ride when its done
