I was at brent’s this afternoon as he soldered the wires for the walbro install. Did you get it back in brent?
Yeah, it’s in. I’m buying the hardware to screw it back together soon. I want to use allens so I don’t have to fuck with phillips heads anymore.
Looks good, whats a realistic ETA for completion? Are we going to be seeing it in action this summer? Looks like a shit load of work but def a blast of a project.

Fuck yeah it will be out this summer. I’d like to see it completed in April, but it depends on how many times I’m stuck waiting on parts. It’d be easy to get the actual work done by then.
Gotcha, I asked Mark this q the other day but you would know the answer, how different/difficulty level is it to swap the fc’s vs the fd’s
Should be pretty similar. The FC will be significantly cheaper and possibly a bit easier.
Yeah but FD>pretty much anything besides exotics in the looks department imo.
So, puttered a bit more with things today. Progress has been slow because I don’t have all the parts I need right now. Should have the battery in next week and hopefully have the fuel system set up as well, which means I should be able to put the rear end of the interior back together.
Here is how it looks now
The front isn’t much better, I pulled the cluster and glovebox today to allow better access for wiring.
Another shot of the big red calipers on my rotor. I plan to replace those ricer rotors eventually, but it’s at the bottom of the list.
What is the black box in this shot? I suspect it’s an airbag sensor, there is one on each side of the car. If they are, I’ll be removing them.
Here is what I ended up doing for battery relocation wiring. Let me know if you think it should be adequate. I plan on getting some red electrical tape to denote it as the positive lead and will remove or cover up the exposed lug that used to connect to the + post of the battery.
And another question. What in the HELL is the white piece with some wiring on it? This has confused me since day 1.
Finally, what are these relays. I think they’re referenced in the FD LS1 wiring writeup (thanks for the instructions, Dan), but I’m not sure. Can I get rid of them?
So, I basically just pulled more of the interior apart today, reattached a bit of the stuff in the hatch to get it ready for total reassembly and ordered the hardware to put the fuel pump back in. If anyone wants NICE allen-head hardware for their fuel pump housing bolts, let me know, I’ll have extra that I’ll send you for cheap!
I also got the steering rack bolted in completely, which was nice since it had been loose since I got the car. I also removed the airbag module and continued to remove the Bose equipment from the car.
I’m not sure if I’ll be working on the car for the next couple weeks. Mike, who is the only one with access to the garage may be going on vacation, which would mean that I’ll spend the next weeks planning and sourcing any parts that I can think of needing.
So, after what seems like forever with no updates or significant progress, I’m back to working on the car. I was held up a bit by just generally being busy and took off last weekend to head to the blowneuroz meet in Philadelphia.
I’ve finished 90% of the prep work to get the engine in the car. I just need to source a part or two and get the transmission mounts reinforced, which should happen today.
For progress, the battery is tied down and ready to have cables put on it (they’re strung as well). The fuel system is mostly hooked up, I just need to decide on a line to use for a return line.
We ended up moving the car down to Mike’s place because it was way more convenient to work on and, thanks to him cleaning up a TON, there was finally room to put it in the barn.
Blue Moon and liquid tape - helps to get a job done well!
Spent a bit of time messing with my remote terminals before deciding to wait until the engine is in and I can check clearances with a hood on. It should be a really easy job to finish up by then.
Random pile of crap #12, now in a new location. Does anyone buy stock FD front bars for any money? I have a feeling that with the new Racing Beat bar, I won’t ever want the stocker.
Now for a question.
Are these things all airbag sensors and wiring? If I remove them, will there be any negative consequences (airbag is already removed since I went with an aftermarket steering wheel)?
This is from somewhere in the engine bay, the bracket was unbolted before I got the car, so I have no idea where it actually came from.
Passenger’s side strut tower.
Passenger’s side under the headlight (also the same thing on the driver’s side.
And another quick Q.
Is this the tab that needs to be removed for engine install? (top right, above the box)?
I can’t answer any of your questions, but it is looking good so far. I just want to say I wish my driveway looked like that.
No problem on the questions, they’ve been answered elsewhere now. I just compose one post for a lot of boards.
Looking sweet so far. question, what size steering wheel is that? I’m looking to grab a 330mm for my car but I think it might be too small. When do you hope to have this done by? Summer?

Oh yeah, hopefully within a month or 2. Motor could go in as soon as this week/weekend!
Johnny welded up the tranny mounts last night, so now, pending bolts, the engine/tranny can go into this puppy.

those sensors…dunno wtf they are. That tab, yes, it has to be removed. Also, you may want to bend the firwall lip (not pictured) down or cut it to make room for the map sensor on the back of the motor. I should get you some detailed pics of my bros setup which would help you get a few ideas as to how you want to run shit.
Well, moved the car again and now I’m working on it 5-7 days a week, at least for a couple hours a day. Things are progressing, but I won’t have my camera until Monday for photos.
I need a hand with the wiring though. Is there any way you/your brother can make it out to Rochester for some beer/pizza and wiring in the next couple weeks? I’d definitely cover gas and throw you some money for the trouble if you can help out with it. The instructions are pretty crappy…
I should have the rest buttoned up shortly. Just need to source a few more parts and get things bolted up.
Hurry up slacker! Summer is here
That “tab” you asked about connects the front end and acts as an airbox, Intercooler support with the 13B in there. Also I moved my battery to the “bin” behind the passenger seat, and attached the positive to the fuse box or relays where you pointed it out. The Airbag relays can be ditched along with anything that has purple-ishblue or orange connections to it (runs up the passenger side of the fender).
X…
i’ll give you a call thursday/friday night so i can check out the progress.
