Hunters: who's going out for opening day?

Angelica?!?! lol, I’ll be just north, in Birdsall.

I’d be right by both of you in Belmont with my dad et al, but as stated I’m too lazy to wake up early

Yeah I hear ya there man. I gotta be up at 4:30ish. its gonna be rough lol.

do not want. if anything ill hunt the sunset shift. jesus youre already awake and i havent even gone to bed yet :suckoff:

I was going to go out with a bunch of friends this morning, but way too fucking early and we were at the bar until 1 last night in Almond lol.

and this is the exact reason why i feel most people shouldn’t be able to own guns.

I’ve also been hunting a few times and never took a shot. 1) the deer was too small, 2) I know my father was walking around and I couldn’t see clearly behind the deer, 3) a group passed in front of me but I felt we already filled the tag, my father took some shots before.

Its also a fucking mess.

lol when my father was younger he use to go a few miles back in the woods cause he felt he wanted to be away from every other hunter… and holy shit… he’s had some horror stories of the drag back. lol

I got a nice size doe yesterday, seen some Bucks but no good shots on them. Next week hopefully I can snag a good sized buck.

ugh

Saw a .308mag, single shot bolt action w/ iron sights for sale recently. THAT’S the manliest way to hunt. One shot, no scope, manly sized round, awesome accuracy.

btw you hunters sure have some cute accessories. about two dozen aisles of cute little tools or things to give you an advantage over the deer. how adorable.

Yeah there is a thread about it ass, learn how to capitalize before you say anything if you really want to nit pick. :deadhorse:

i would be a bow and arrow guy if given the chance

never been given the chance… big frank and i like wrenching on import cars instead

yup i use either my German WWII Mauser 98k or my WWI US 1903 springfield :headbang:

Shit yeah! The Mauser is sick! My dad has one but he doesn’t have hardly any ammo for it so I’ve only ever fired it once. :frowning: I’ve always wanted to get my hands on an Enfield and take that hunting/target shooting. Where’d you get the springfield? That’s awesome if you take it hunting!

making fun of grammar on a forum is totally 2002.

LOL after cars, old military and sporting guns are my big money pit … I have another springfield, a m1 garand and a German Luger

I would really like to get my hands on a mkIII british enfield made prior to 1916 (my great grandfather on my mom’s mom’s side was in the british army and got shot up pretty bad on the first day of the Somme in july 1916, so something “he could have used”)

the mauser my grandfather picked up in Austria at the end of the war… all numbers matching mfg in 1940. Its the gun that i shot my first deer with, a 6 pointer back in 2005

the 1903 Springfield has been in the family for many years, i also have the bayonet for it… My grandfather said that his dad smuggled it back from WWI with him, but i doubt that, he prob got it through the NRA back in the 1920’s.

This year i am going to take out my Model 1896 Krag (the US service rifle before the '03) and try to get something with that. My great grandfather bought this as surplus in 1915 for something like $20, still have the documentation.

anyone else get anything? 2 guys we were with each got one. I had a chance at one, but it was a bit far and I couldn’t tell if it was a doe or a buck.

Wish I would have gone out today too. Oh well, heading out next weekend.

I was in the same spot for all of archery. It is my company’s job site. Opening day some D-bag goes right down the path I made, and goes in a tree 30’ from mine, which clearly I have been in because I left all my sent bombs in the tree branches, and left my climber base there. People have no common sense.

I was out yesterday evening and heard a bunch of shots about 400 yards to my left, so I got all excited thinking that it would scare any deer in the area toward me…and I was right :D. Unfortunately, the 2 deer I saw were behind a thicket and I could not get a clear shot :(. At least I know they are still in there though.

I take it you’re one of those uneducated people that believes hunting is barbaric?

↑ Word, these people wont be saying that when their car is all smashed to shit because of overpopulated deer.

i think he is referring to people who take it too far with the high tech shit… hunting is supposed to be “primitive”

My cousin is a good example of this… he goes maybe 1/4 mile from our cabin , but has enough electronic shit to find his way through the Alaskan wilderness and prob live there for a month, has his semi auto rifle (which is made out of composite and stainless steel, i hate modern guns, out of the 17 that i own, only one is newer than 1955) with a scope that looks like he is sniping stuff 2 miles away.

not my thing at least

That’s amazing! Good to see they’re in the hands of someone who knows how to take care of them, but more importantly uses them! Hate to see things like that collecting dust when they can outshoot half the guns other people use.

I’ve got a spectacular Arisaka type 99 Paratrooper-spec rifle, it’s brilliant. Most of the japanese guns from that era were garbage, but this thing is exceptionally true. Has the long-range paratrooper sights and extended barrel. This is the pic from wiki but they’re identical sights:

lol jeg.

Yeah no joke, if you have $10k in hunting equipment you should maybe quit while you’re ahead. Something warm, maybe invest in some underarmor, and the reg. orange, and a nice simple tree stand. The odor masking spray is pretty useful but beyond that, man there’s way too many “toys” and accessories they try to sell to hunters.

IMO a scope is acceptable if you’re looking to hunt mostly to eat on the cheap. If you’re hunting primarily for sport and secondary to eat, go iron sights or go home. Just how I feel, I’m sure a ton of people will disagree with me. At least jt’s got my back.
