Hydraulic Lifter Question

After many attempts at searching I am at a loss…

I would like to know if leaving lifters in a head for say 4-5 months without oil or running will wreck or possibly just temporarily drain them until starting the engine up and “filling” back up agian.

The lifters have been sitting in oil for about 3 months now and are “filled” already.

I have read some information about being fine if they drain, but I have also read sories about people having issues with the lifters not “filling” back up after a period of time and then experiencing major valve lash.

Any help will be appreciated.

P.S This is for a CA18 motor.

Thanks,
-Nick

Nick, if the CA lifters are anything like the SOHC ka lifters there is a way to take them apart and manually bleed them, if they do stop working… as for putting them in the head I’d personally leave them out as long as possible to avoid oil draining and possibly preventing damage.

There is a good article on NICO on how to rebuild the lifters and manually bleed them if anything does go wrong.
