I bit the bullet....BIG TIME

Hmmm…

Anyways, ram can be overclocked if i wanted, no problems there

Some comments on the 9600GT

The GeForce 8800 GT was faster than the BFGTech GeForce 9600 GT OC by a large margin in Crysis. With the GeForce 8800 GT we could have all of those options on the GeForce 9600 GT turned on “High” plus the shaders quality set to “High.” Setting the shaders quality to “High” makes the most significant impact in the gameplay experience in Crysis. The BFGTech GeForce 9600 GT OC didn’t have the performance to enable this setting to “High” at 1280x1024, even with everything else on “Medium.” The GeForce 8800 GT however does allow this setting to be enabled, along with the texture, volumetric effects, and water all set to “High.”

Any way you slice it, the BFGTech GeForce 9600 GT OC allows a more enjoyable experience in Crysis compared to the Radeon HD 3850 and Radeon HD 3870. The GeForce 8800 GT however, offers a better experience than the BFGTech GeForce 9600 GT OC by a large amount, due to shader count no doubt.

Performance versus the 8800 GT

In our testing the GeForce 8800 GT was faster than the BFGTech GeForce 9600 GT OC in every game. In the case of Crysis we saw the most advantage for gameplay with the 8800 GT allowing us to enable “High” shaders quality at 1280x1024. In some games though, like COD 4, and UT3 the improvement wasn’t as big, but it was still there.

Its ok man, Looks like my research is just fine. The 8800 was cheap anyways.

The only core 2 that was an option was the E6850. I wasnt sure on that, it was a toss up. Ill be fine im sure, no problems playing/doing whatever.

shit joe, i didnt even know. Can you take dell credit cards?

i run a dell 24" monitor. doom 3 high quality and ut2k4 high quality, 1920x1200 res, no AA or AF, but it runs very smooth and looks great on a bfg6800gs o/c agp 8X. so i’m sure the 8800gt will be plenty sufficient for any game out there now.

yeah im not even worried about it to be honest. Its faster than what i have now and i can play alot on this system as it is. But i also do alot of encoding of movies to stream to the xbox, which should be alot better also.

oh the Q6600 will make encoding a fucking snap. :tspry:

Ohh and that belarc advisor has been on this pc for a while, i love that tool!!!

very nice brother  you wont be disappointed with either the processor or the GPU… both are the best bang for the buck you can get right now IMO

enjoy it

edit: why not dual boot XP and Vista? With a beast of a rig like that, vista should run just as smooth/fast as XP

I was a vista hater, but since I tried it and started running DX10, you couldn’t pay me to go back

Awesome computer. I needed a new PC, and decided to not build one again. I got a refurbished HP laptop for $1000 with 2.0ghz dual-core, 17" LCD, 2gb ram, 320gb hd, 8600gs m. Has no problems playing Source/BF2/R6 Vegas on high, which is all I wanted.

The first thing I did was format it. Mine had THREE rows of bloat ware on my desktop. It wouldnt let me format with XP or my own copy of Vista. I had to use Linux to format.

We take regular credit cards, but not Dell exclusive credit cards.

Next time, right?

sure man, i didnt even know lol

lol jesus buick… nice…

WOW, I UNDERSTOOD 4 WORDS IN THIS THREAD!

good job kev

lol bring your laptop in tomorrow Bill, ill look at it for ya.

you work sundays now?

i will

ohh crap, lol not yet at least

buickgn,

nowhere on that chart did it show a gt comparison to a GTX or ultra. It showed to a gts and an ati card, but not a gtx or ultra. The 8800gt is better than the old gts cards sure, but the new g92 gts has a slight edge over it as well. Maybe only 2-3 fps in game. Show some benchmarks that have an 8800gt “blow away” an 8800gtx or ultra at high resolution high AA settings. You wont.

Also, theres no point in overclocking your ram. You need to get the FSB of your cpu up to speed first. 1066/4 = 266.5/400. Meaning theres still room for your fsb to be overclock before you even consider overclocking ram. OCing the ram is just a huge waste, unless your fsb is 1600 or higher.

Dont get me wrong. Im not bashing your pc. Its pretty sweet. The 8800gt is by far the best bang for the buck out there now. The q6600 is damn future proof too (at least in pc terms. Probably good for a 1-2 years in the way of high end gaming). Just get yourself a nice zalman copper hs, some mx2 and get that bitch up to 3.0 or better!

I’m with Djs87 on this one… the 8800GT is nice, but doesn’t compete with the GTX or the Ultra. I think you meant the GTS… but even that case is debatable.

Sweet rig. You’ll luv the monitor.

A buddy of mine is running 2 Ultras in SLI with the 24 and its freaking amazing.

lol ohh well then, ill still be fast as shit, no matter what card i chose. Ill run some real benchmarks when i get it, not synthetic crap either.

Ya man, it just depends on what kind of settings you expect out of your games. Those raptor hds freakin fly (noisy/hot but fast as hell). That with the quad and youll have an overall fast pc. Have you considered a zalman hs/fan and trying some overclocking? Only downside of that is the warranty goes bye bye then. But obviously 2.4 1066 to 3.0 1333 (a very modest overclock if its G0 stepping believe it or not) will show a substantial performance increase. Think about it.
