CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Police are hunting for a gunman who shot and killed a man Tuesday night in Cheektowaga Town Park as children and families played nearby.
Even as the sun set and the crowds dispersed, police continued to scour the park, looking for evidence late into Tuesday night, using the beams of their flashlights to scan the ground. A NYS Police helicopter was at the scene Tuesday night briefly.
The murder happened right outside the Cheektowaga Recreational Center around 8:15 p.m. with at least 100 people in the nearby vicinity. A 19-year-old was shot in the chest and rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital, which is across the street from the park, where he later died.
Too bad, sounds like a decent kid who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I really don’t care when it’s gang bangers killing each other but unfortunately innocent people keep getting caught up in it.
I grew up down the street from that park - actually a little ways into the city closer to Schiller Park. I know the neighborhood better than I know any other place on this planet and let me tell you that it’s just awful now. I have so many stories about the things that have happened in the area, some that are just unbelievable.
My point is, take it from me, don’t hang around over there. I would say Pine Ridge is the border though, not Harlem.
