I am not a tech guy so give me ideas or advice if you can. I need a computer for work and I would like it to have a keyboard like a laptop, work like a tablet and be something I can travel to meetings with so it can’t be too big. Maybe something that folds up or flips around to become a tablet? I use the microsoft office programs like Word, Outlook and Excel frequently and almost everything I do is web based. It will be used 24/7 so reliability is important. Apple product because I have an iPhone?
When it comes to ultrabooks everyone ripped off or tried to copy Apple.
The Macbook Air is still the best one on the market and its not very far off the price range of other ultrabooks.
I realize certain apple products carry a large premium over generic counterparts but this is one area where the difference is often a couple hundred and a you get a huge difference in quality
David, does GM require you to use Internet Explorer? If they’re anything like FoMoCo who only officially supports IE, you might find yourself having to run a windows virtual machine to access all of the dealership functions (ADP, Shopwatch, ect, ect.) if you get a mac book. What specifically are you looking to integrate with your iPhone?
Nothing specific, just curious what it will do since everyone here convinced me to get an iPhone. I use Firefox and IE depending on what I am trying to access so it will vary.
I’ve been using this for about 6 months now. Reasonably priced, attractive looks. I’ll admit it is a bit slow and not the easiest to fit in my man purse, but I’ve left it unattended more than once and no issues with theft. Highly recommend.
PS-screen resolution is outstanding.
Well you can…The airs dont have an ethernet port or optical drives…The retina MBPs don’t either. You can buy the optional Thunderbolt SuperDrives or Ethernet adapters, but be forewarned that these need to be purchased separately.
For a work environment it is. Our wireless and wired networks are segregated. The only way (not entirely true) to join Mac laptops and desktops to our domain and the mac server is through our wired network. I also use CDs for Installing office since I haven’t really gotten the software deployment on the mac server working yet.
If he’s using it in a corporate network, Ethernet may be the only way for him to access network shares, email…etc. Just throwing it out there as a potential problem
