I think I want a bike

I’ve been contemplating on getting a bike or not. I know a little bit, but don’t know how to ride. 3.50/gallon + v-8 is killing me. I was thinking of a buell firebolt. I hear that handle real well, they have that harley sound and have that sport bike look.

Anyone have any input on this bike? or better yet, some advice on how to learn besides reading?

take a msf course, get your lisence, get GEAR Helmet, jacket, boots, gloves.

It helps your insurance, and statistically speaking, it’s good for keeping you safer.

I’m looking to sell my F4i, but it seems like you might be more into American bikes.

pics? price? miles? any mods?

my advice if first bike buy a cheap one so you can drop it(unfotunately you will) for a first bike i am a big fan of the suzuki GS500 very reasonably priced and easy resale. and it is not a dedicated sport bike or crusier. so it will give you the opportunity to see what style of bike you want.

By the biggest bike you can.

Go big or go home.

i agree…

or just get a DD car thats decent on gas & goes good in the winter because your still gonna have to get something else when winter comes if you do get a bike

Buell makes a great bike… I worked for a company in latrobe that makes a ton of parts for Harley and Buell. Eric Buell is a sharp dude. anyways they do handle really well and I have riden them on Harley’s proveing grounds up on Pilgrim road Wisconsin… get a buell or a V-rod… I had a v-rod and it was tons of fun…

Looks awesome to me

so your going to spend 2000 + for a bike and gear + insurance to save 10 cents per galon on gas ??? I dunno i guess it depends where u go.

that, and I’d stay away from a super sport bike like the F4i for what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for something as a commuter, you’ll want something a lil more upright, TRUST ME on that. I’d suggest an SV650, or what I have, the Ninja 650R. Most people though start out with the Ninja 250, I did that, but its not great as a commuter, as the carbs can be real finicky and a pain to deal with.

There’s two kinds of riders, those that have dropped their bike and those that will.

Ditto…x101231892631872537812 again. GS500 = cheap, fun, and middle ground between standard and cruiser. My first one was GS500, and I agree that it’s the best starter: enough to keep you interested, not so much you can get yourself in serious trouble without really trying too hard…IMO, FWIW, etc.

I might get the gs500 to start with then, I forgot people did tell me to get a “beater starter bike”. Everyone is telling me I’ll catch on quick. A few of my friends’ comments were

“Can you ride a regular motorcycle?”
“Yeah”
“You car is a stick and you drive the shit outta that right?”
“Yeah”
“You will learn in no time”

Gas prices aren’t THE reason I’m thinking about getting a bike… It’s my excuse. I’ve wanted one for a few years… ever since the first time I saw a buell.

I was in the same boat. Wanted a bike for years and finally went out and got one about a month ago. I got a 2006 GS500F. I love it. I have put 1k miles on in 4 weeks or so. Most of that is just weekend fun. I do ride it to work 1-2 days a week. I will probably increase that when I don’t have to give the girlfriend rides to work in a month or so.

least at the end he has something to show for it instead of just empty pockets and a car wit a 200k+ miles. eventually that bike will be paid off and he can just ride the shit outta it and put liability on it… my buddy pays $450/yr for his gsxr600 and he is 23 yrs old… that would be worth it to me after about 3 months of driving in my truck. i cant stand watching him fill up at the pump and pay $6 lol. i say go for it. ive heard great things bout the gs500f.

I just really don’t see the point in getting a GS500, the MSRP is only a grand under what an SV650S etc would cost which is a lot nicer bike. If you’re afraid of dropping the bike, get a ninja 250, they’re light, and you can get them with low miles for just over a grand. I got mine with 500 miles on it for 1500 bux. Also, the baby ninjas are a lot easier to pass your motorcycle test on.

Dont go out and spend $10k for your 1st bike, as mentioned above get a decent used bike, that way if you drop it or it falls over it doesnt hurt nearly as much. Ninja 250’s are turd’s, you’d be bored with that bike in a week. I own a Buell Firebolt and I’d stay away from those as your 1st bike, they will leave a bad taste in your mouth. I say go for something like an older CBR600, F2 or F3 94-98, good performance, good handling, comfortable, etc. You can find deals on them fairly easy in the $2-$3k range.

another bike id consider is a suzuki katana 600, you can pick one up for real cheap wit like 5k-8k miles on it and its a good bike, i had an older katana that rode liek shit but they ahve improved the new ones ALOT

im selling a 93 f2 for 2500
