The exhaust has less than 5000 kms on it… can’t remember exactly, but probably in the 4500-5000 range (one summer). The condition is obvious when you look at it:
a) it’s still shiny looking; all stainless steel - even the welds
b) the protective paint coating the welds is still there from my initial install a year ago
c) it mounts perfectly when installed; no need to mess around with aligning the tips and so on
As for sound, it’s very nice… essentially, it’s an amplified stock exhaust. That is the description my wife gives it when she follows behind me on the highway. There is none of the boominess of the regular injen; the x-pipe eliminates nearly all of the noise by cancelling out the loudest sound waves at the crossover point. Inside the cabin, especially above 3000 rpm, the sound is very ferrari-esque. I’m not just saying this; buy the exhaust from me and I’ll sit in the car with you and look you in the eye and say it. I’m not just trying to unload the exhaust and run.
If it wasn’t because of my job, I would keep it. I park in the Commerce Court underground lot regularly and if you’ve ever been there, you’ll realize that there is no noise cancellation in the walls… even the stock exhaust sounds loud and annoying. So it needs to go.
Plus my wife gives me ‘the look’ every time we pass by it in the garage.
Haha
David, no money has exchanged hands yet so if you still want it, just buy it before I do.
I dont think strife would care where he got the money from. hehe
I appreciate the heads up though.
haha, and our cars are dressed for the “black” tie affair! I think mine will the quietest one there though…heh, main reason i didn’t buy my buddy’s exhaust…abit too loud for my tastes, plus i’m a JDM whore.
well, if you’re a JDM whore, than you should get the HKS exhaust i was thinking of getting that system before i went FI, but couldn’t get used to the sound of it from the clips i found online.
Weve been through 2 Systems on our Z. We first had a Borla which sounded amazing, but wasnt going to be able to Handle the extra power from the Supercharger… My Mom and I bought my Dad a Stillen Dual System for his birthday this year… I think its one of the nicest sounding ones out there, very discreet down low and just has a supercar howl uptop without loosing the stock Z sound…
I’ve never heard of Tommy Kaira’s systems before… I like it best of all the bunch… is there a term for that ‘metal rattling’ on some of those exhausts? (Ex. Mine’s http://www.everything350z.com/exhaustmp3/mines.mp3)
Ya, TK exhaust does have a nice sound. But its also pretty $$$$$, well anything jdm really.
The metal sound is “rasp”, the drone is a little harder to explain (at least for me).
I would say that its the low bass/hollow type sound you get from the exhaust in the mid range or maybe even in the higher rpms. Most have it upon startup which is almost normal, but I dont like it when it can be heard through most of the power band. It will give me headaches… lol.
I like the sound of the injen, but only if it has had the X-pipe muffler added to it, it almost retains the stock sound but with a deeper throatier growl. Without this mod, it would drone like crazy! Mind you some really like drone, just not me.
Thanks for the explanation Church, I’m having problems with words today.
I post too many threads… So, does anyone want to post these links up on the Fairlady/Z sub-forum to be stickied?
Ah, that’s the term I was looking for. A lot of the E46 M3 dudes try to get rid of the inherent rasp… Is this something you guys aim for? (I too personally hate it)
