Iphone 3g can use a standard 3.5mm headphone jack to output audio.
Def go with an iPhone. Even on EDGE it works decent. You can also get other internet radio stations too to mix it up and the best part is when you get out of your car, you can take it with you

im thinking the 3.5 jack to aux would give the same quality as the iphone adapter. the iphone adaptor does let you control your music through the receiver tho.

From the installs I have seen, the aux jack is just an audio input to your stereo. Controls and volume and equalizer needs to be setup on the ipod. The adapter actually gives your stereo the ability to change the volume of the preamp audio output and change the song on the stereo which is pretty useful on the touch/iphone so you dont need to stare at the screen.
on my stereo, the ipod cable runs from the back allowing total control through the stereo itself. sometimes its a pain, but much better with a remote.
naw my radio does all the shit from the remote, pioneer is really good about theyre shit like that. My usb adapter shows album, song, artist, and everything is controlled from the remote, basically the ipod adapter piggybacks into the usb adapter allowing 2 connections.
