Just proposing the possibility of offering a cheap obd2 reader that would diagnose most if not all OBD2 vehicles.
Process:
just plug in to the obd2 port hook up a labtop via USB use free software or maybe my own (depends how much effort i feel like putting in)
retrieve the code and just look it up online and diagnostics finished.
You can even reset that pesky check engine light for the those whole like to ignore it.
You would also be able to view all real time data. (refer to descriptions in table of link for all available data http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II_PIDs )
Price: aprrox: $50
Purchase one and friends and family will never have to go to the mechanic and spend $100 for 5 seconds of work.
I know there are products out there exactly like this i just figure i can make something a little cheaper but a little better at the same time.
let me know if you think u would be interested or if people in general may be. Any input is good input.
Will this be a group buy? Like the more people the cheaper? (this is SON, price goes up = lost interest). And if I read correctly your going to be producing these yourself? Im probably interested depending on the final result and such. Have a prototype for demonstration?
well if there is interest the initial release would be a group buy. I already have one for my self but it doesn’t support all the vehicles out there. I can always stop by one of the meets to demo it… provided there be interest.
If you guys have other interesting things you would like for ur cars just propose them. I was thinking of making a little device that sits on ur dash that can display real time data like G-forces, crude lap timer (would only be accurate to plus or minus a second), and the ability to have sensors hooked up so when ur done a lap day, u can have a nice time based chart displaying all ur data in sync with each other.
