Idle problems

I tried a number of things, first thing right after work was unhook the positve and stepped on the brake, of course meanwhile the alarm siren is blarring till the remaining battery power died. It didn’t help!! (I had the battery right out too) so I thought maybe it was the air intake that had something to do with it (cause I had just changed that), so I took the cone off to see if that would help it idle better. NOPE!! So I tried checking all the vacuum lines and then I ended up finding this one plug right in the middle there in between the air intake and the valve cover right before the fuel rail. Everytime I moved the wire to it the car would idle up a bit. I don’t know if that is the throttle control valve or what, I took it off and put it back on to make sure it was on right. it ran a lil bit better, very minute change. Picture is below

So my final attempt was to try and advance it and idle it up (IACV) its completely at the end now, can’t turn the IACV up anymore. I did manage to get it to run a bit more better, it idles a bit better but… it sorta seems sluggish on take off. I dunno I’m outta ideas now!! Can anyone help??

The plug is the one circled in white!!

thats a coolant temp sensor, its very important because that tells the ecu whether the engine has heated up yet or not and it will run differently depending what the temp is at. Clean the connectors and plug it back in.

i had the same problem and i pulled the sensor itself and cleaned it up (watch out tho coolant comes out so do it when it is cold so u can plug it with ure finger or somthing without burning ureself) after i put mine back in it worked fine. try it if it dont work ure probly looking at a new sensor

Kewl!!

Thanks guys, I’ll either clean it or replace it!!

One thing I didn’t mention before is, I seem to smell the exhaust when I have my window open a bit. Its not coming in when the window is closed, its when I’m driving or just idling at a light. Is this a normal S13 thing?? Or do I possibly have an exhaust leak AND would that cause my car to idle rough as well??

Well I tried a few places today to get the idle checked out. I had Jared check it out and I had bought an intake cleaner a few days before and didn’t get a chance to do it, cause someone has to rev it up while I put it on. Anyway, we ran it thru the IIACV hose and tried that a couple times. It seems to have fixed the idle problem, however he said that 2 of my injectors are possibly leaking. So it jumps a lil bit but not dropping off and almost stalling now!! There is still something up with that coolant temperature sensor, which Partsource will hook me up for $20 or so. Thanks again Jared!!
