Well, my moms friend owns her own business exporting wines to japan… And I’ve had several discussions with her regarding importing car parts… Now what Im trying to find out are several things…
Are their any Japanese yards you can refer me to send her to for clips?
What shipping companys do you reccommend for large crates…?
Approx. what is the cost in Japan for a SR20 motor/tran/ecu/wiring? vs. the cost of a complete front clip… ?
Im trying to figure out weather I’d be better off shipping over 5-10 clips or 10-20 motors which one is more profitable due to space in the crates…
Any help will be greatly appreciated… Im also curious as to what the mark-up is approximately on a motor being sold on SON, after all shipping/duties/clip is paid for…
dont think your going to see much profit in bringing motors and clips over man…
with varun working the way he does and the numerous other shops bringing these things over i dont see how your going to make much off em.
personally id stick to getting parts, apperal, etc… its easier to sell i think… and if you find the right shops im sure youll be able to work out somethign decent with em.
i personally love dropping the cash i have on the smaller things… so i dunno… maybe just an idea.
The thing with engines is although you can get them for cheap, usually half of what they sell for here, you will have to pay for them, shipping, customs, etc.
Then you will have to try and sell them, do you have somewhere to store the engines until they sell? Also who will be checking the engines before you ship to make sure they are complete? Your mom?
There is definitely more money in importing just engines as opposed to front clips. Engines are cheaper and take up less space in a container.
If you plan to ship anything that size from japan, you would be better off shipping in a container, I believe the smallest ones are 20x10 or so.
I’m not going to get into the markup because it all depends on the cost you can get it for, shipping, customs, storage and too many other variables that you don’t know right now.
Do you have anymore information as too price ideas for shipping a standard 10 X 20? Whats the cost going to be like for duties/customs/shipping company?? Thanks for answering my question for motors or clips 8)
Thanks for the encouragement Bing. It’s definately good to see that the pricing isn’t bad, and parts would be nice too. Im going to definately continue persuing this, I’ve still gotta find out where to send the Lady to look, She has family their and I think that there are some guys their to help her, I think ill try a few motors because It won’t be gauranteed to run like varuns, I dont inspect them properly myself or have anyone doing it… Parts its at least pics and you see what you get…
Bing could you direct me into any specific areas/places, got an idea on the shipping? And parts suggestions??
Thanks for the help so far, I’ll be sure to remember who helped me if and when I bring in some products…
you are looking for a storage place to store the peices? I might be able to lend/rent a 1 car garage for you if you want… but I’ll have to ask my parents… I don’t live in the house… it’s a detached garage
From what I’ve been told, cost on SRs in Japan is closer to $700 USD, I guess it depends where you go or who you know.
If you are only shipping one container, then you will probably need a customs broker or freight forwarder, if you contact one they can probably give you a price. If I had to pick a number I would say you would be looking at about $2000 USD for a 20ft container. Customs amounts would depend on the value of what you are importing.
The harness ignitor and ecu will cost you more then the sr20 in japan…
i dont buy my engines in japan anymore, i get the from some buddies in the mid east because they are pre inspected and shipped to the mid east before i inspect them…i pay 400usd for a brand new harness, which is fuckin killer expensive…this game is very low profit, and very high risk…Thats why im slowly edging out of it…
If u do this ureself, i suggest getting one or two first, and testing out the quality so then the losses and risks are not as great…however, thats just my personal opinion. …
cal me if u want help with this, ill tell you how to do it brandon…
peace
