Incompetant Oakville Nissan just SCREWED me Need advice FAST

Ok… I went to Oakville nissan last night for an oil change… BAD IDEA

I drove to work this morning and everything SEEMED fine, but I had my music loud so I don’t know for sure… Upon leaving work tonight, when I start the car, its sounding a little off… but I didn’t have time to warm it up much… so I dunno if it might be because of that… as I start to drive it gets MUCH worse… I get 3 blocks then I have to pull over cause it got very bad very fast… Very loud ticking type noise. I realize this is an oil problem. Check the dipstick and its BARE. NO OIL. Now the car did not go very far, but i’m still worried this might of caused some serious damage. Now I don’t know if they put the wrong filter in, or forgot to put the oil drain plug back in or forgot to put oil in altogether…but they seriously fucked up…

I should mention I was there for almost 3 hours for a simple oil change… Apparently they knocked the starter wire off when they were changing the filter (this has happened before) and it took them that long to put it back on.

Now earlier this year I had a situation where they changed my oil and the car wouldn’t start. They said the wire from the trunk to the starter needed to be replaced because it was severly corroded. (it was only a few months old). So $400+ later it was working. Now heres the kicker…

This time the dude tells me…‘whoever wired this car did a really shitty job’ because when they changed the filter it fell off again. So I tell him, that it was nissan who changed it in the first place when it was prob fine to begin with! Ie. they just knocked it off and couldn’t figure it out, so they replaced the whole wire costing me $400+

Anyways… to the more serious issue…because of however the fuck they screwed up a simple oil change my engine could be severly damaged…

I’ve towed it to the dealership, and it’s there right now, I’ll have to go tmrw morning and yell at them, but I know there just gonna say something like… oh its not the stock engine so we can be responsible… or something gay…

So what the hell to do?!

I’m gonna ask that they pay for a mechanic of MINE to inspect the engine for damage, AND to refund the unnessesary cable replacement cost. But I can’t see them doing either of those, and just saying ‘sorry, your problem’… But I’m not going to accept that… Anyone have any similair situations or advice??

I’m very worried about my baby…

James

not the stock motor?

is it still a ka?

i remember back in highschool the teachers used to have there oil changed y the students in the auto shops…the studetns were supervised by the teachers who signed off at the end of the oil change to say it was done correctly.

well one time the oil filter wants tightened or was the wrong size or somethin, anywho, the filter popped off and the motor went boom, the school had to pay the teacher for a new motor…as far as your situation goes, i’d push them to repair the damage free of charge. IF that doesn’t work…write Nissan Canada or contact them.

I did this years ago with my dad’s windstar when the ehads warped 1000km after the warenty expired. It cost 3800$ to replace and repair what was needed…Ford footed the bill after the letter we sent and appologized.

Soem times you catch a break.

It’s an SR, and I’m pretty sure Nissan won’t do squat, as I see ppl yelling at them everytime I go in, and it doesn’t seem to accomplish much.

tell them ure lawyer has allready been contacted…i can almost guarantee they used the wrong size filter and oil leaked out all over the motor…make sure u check that before they get to it !
peace.

It would be a very good idea to take some pictures right now, before they get their hands on it.

Check if the drain plug is still there. If not, take a picture.

Check if the filter is the wrong size. If not, take a picture.

Check to see if there is any oil on your driveway or at work, perhaps the pan may be cracked.

In any case, you will see massive oil residue where the leak occured. Take a picture.

Otherwise, they may have forgotten to fill the pan like you mentioned.

You’re best bet would be that the filter is the wrong size, since this way you have concrete proof. I would not be suprised if this was the case, as most mechanics will grab the filter based on the car model and year.

Worst case is they play the SR card, mentioning you should not have the motor in the first place.

Seriously, if they haven’t looked at it yet, get there first thing in the morning and take as many pictures as you can.

KA oil filter works for SR as well, DG3682 with fram, same part number for KA and i use it on my SR.

your car is either an S14 or that red S13 but i think that one got messesd, either way i am pretty usre your car has a KA24DE and so they should not have got the wrong filter because the thread pitch is the same on both.

check your drain plug.

find out where the oil went, go to where you were parked.

call the lawyer first, before you go to nissan.

your engine will be fine, been there done that.

get money from those fuckers though.

Don’t be wasting your money on a lawyer. You signed a contract when you brought the car in. Almost every dealership has it. When I work at westwood chevy they had it and where I work now 401 dixie nissan has it to. Might as well call them up and talk to them, and they’ll fix it. Just look over the car and see what happend and let them know. The basic nissan filters will fit the SR they all of them are interchange able due to the thread of the filter but the filter them selfs are different sizes.

iut’s simple, you’ve got allot of Nissan drivers here, IF they don’t give you satisfaction, provided it was something to do with them… then you’ve got a ready and willing group here that will start a phone campaign to the pres/GM of that dealership as well as the Nissan Canada… I’m pretty sure if REASON won’t work then the pressure of many many potential lost customers for service and sales will do the trick… as well I’m sure 50-100 calls to nissan head offices. will make someone sit up and notice…

They could mention that but I think they would still be in the wrong, since they agreed to perform the work despite knowing (or should having known) what motor was in there.

If they say ‘oh, the motor in there is wrong’ just ask why they agreed to perform any work in the first place.

Ya that is a good one mike, and even if it is an SR, It is still a factory motor in Canada, just not the turbo, but the Oil Filter is the same. James just tell them to Go to HELL, I hate the place.

heck they are putting an SR into a project car there,. they really should know what is going on… and ys they did the wiring and charged you $400 to get it done, there is no way they should say it was done wrong and needs to be redone.

Ill make a bunch of calls for ya if they do nothing.

Ok, I just got back from the dealership. I was expecting to go in there yelling and screaming, but they were actually good about the situation. The guy I dealt with (Amorey) was very good about it all, and was genuinely concerned.

As I expected they used the wrong filter. They used the generic filter for all the current SR20de motors which is the red one. As we know, the sr20det requires the blue filter which is the 53J00 I believe. So as a lesson, do not ask for a sentra filter, be specific and ask for the actual part number.

The filter they used sort of fits, but as soon as the engine is started, it will basically blow it right off.

The good news is that there doesn’t appear to be any (audible) damage, and everything seems to be running fine now. It’s a good thing I didn’t go more than a few blocks.

Although they obviously didn’t want to pay to pull the engine apart to inspect it, I only managed to get an engine bay cleaning from them.

The mechanics who were looking at the car this time all seem to be very good and knowledgeable mechanics, it’s just the gimp’s doing the (supposed) easy jobs who are the incompetent ones…

So anyways, I don’t really know what else I could reasonably ask from the dealership, but I’m really just happy that my baby’s ok.

James

ya I asked for the filter for the 2000NX when I got mine, I know that one fits fine.

well I am glad that everything seems to be in order James

i have had a similar thing happen to me and there was no determinable damage done.

you will be fine.

dealerships suck

ya really, did they do a good job cleanimng the bay??

I think they should front the amount of the towing bill as well, if they haven’t already.

That shouldn’t have been necessary had everything been done correctly, ya know?

Ya, I wanted to try to get them to pay for towing…but without actually having paid and with a reciept (CAA), it’s kinda hard. As for the cleaning, they haven’t done it yet, I told them I’d bring it in sometime next week, cause I had to get my ass to work. I was kinda dreaming about getting the internals upgraded for free outta this something…but that’s just dreaming…

FYI the SR specific filter is the 15208-53J00

^^^ that is correct… and a KA filter will definitely not work.

I’m not too sure about the KA filter, but the NX2000 filter works just fine. Thats what i use on my sr.
