Hey guys so I got the S14 Sr swap. My car currently has a Blitz FMIC, Blitz BOV and upgraded fuel pump. My question is what are some of the ways to improve low end torque? The car only really seems to come alive after 3500 ~ 4000rpm.
I know I can always get a boost controller and crank up the boost a bit, it was also recommended I check out cams and rocker arm stoppers for improvement through out the rev range.
I just wanted to hear some of your opinions and see what you guys would do, I am having a hard time figuring out if purchasing a boost controller at a lower cost would yield better low end torque, than purchasing a good set of cams at a higher price point.
check ur timing and afr. raising boost with a manual boost controller isn’t going to really help at low ends. you can go to a smaller intercoller, check see if bov is shot after throttle. and ur wastgate is letting gas go at low rpms.
Cams will do the opposite of what you want (generally). You will lose low end power/torque but gain top end power.
Just get a small ball bearing turbo, like this one with supporting mods.
Intercooler size has little to do with low end power. The only downside to a big intercooler is slight pressure loss, which can be compensated for by turning up the boost a little, assuming you’re not maxing it out already.
Edit: also, you’re not really gonna be able to get that much power under 3500rpm with a 4 banger lol. You might want to look into getting a V8 if you want low end power that badly.
Thanks for the input guys, I think I am going to take a closer look at my exhaust setup. I just have a some no name exhaust with a crappy down pipe right now, I didn’t think that would have made a difference in my low end torque, so I think I am also going to get a boost controller and turn up the boost a little, right now I am on stock psi. As for the V8 options who knows maybe a vk50 crammed into my tiny little s14 engine bay?
you can increase the timing and that is about it. Its a 2.0 liter engine. 8.5:1 compression. Don’t expect a lot of low end torque because you will not get it.
If the cars running well, and you’ve got full 3" flowing turbo back and the usual bolt-ons, low end torque shouldn’t be much of an issue in giving you that smooth pickup and build up to bOost.
lolmy s14 sr has way to muck low end torque and i want more top end, having more back presser will give you more low end torque to the point were you can feel the car lifting up in the front, if you have a cat you will feel more if not you will feel less but if you have a strong slincer you will feel alot of low end,
lol welcome to 2 liter turbo… thats what i told people years ago that i hated… no power until 4k rpm… hence my made up opinion that a LS V8 > SR, RB, CA, etc… and as time went by look everyone’s doing it now Saddly I still don’t have one
It just doesn’t feel the same once you feel the linear power of a v8 and that of 4 bangers no matter which turbo… heck my talon tsi was fun… awd turbo launches… but a v8 just feels… better…
ahh you must be the guy with the 08 si at cscs the other day i freaking love those cars my buddy had one and we would always switch cars so much fun over all other civics!!
