Pensions are not realistic programs for younger generations IMO.
I would NEVER trust a pension program as a younger person given the perma-inflation and bailouts etc…
JMHO, they are killing the USD and the US economy to have a shiny RIGHT NOW at the expense of the long haul.
That said, Ingram Micro did this layoff and LACKEY hiring game (college interns and phillipinos). Its the way of big business. In a round about way it’s lowering wages…which could end up being a good thing. We may come to have wages more inline with realistic levels and reclaim our US jobs from overseas. HRMMM
The amount of pay for college experience has declined horribly. It’s amazing, the amount of appicants out there for what were JUNK and low paying jobs are now persued by college grads.

I hope this works out for you. You assume you’ll be there that long, after they just clearly demonstrated it’s all about the bottom line? I bet those that got the ax were thinking how nice their pension would be and how they were immune to the economic hampster wheel.
I’m not wishing this on you. I just have to give the other side of the coin for my fellow naysayers. I know…how Un-American of me, but I have that right in this country. For now.
ya but my worry would be putting in 9 years and right before you qualify for the pension plan, you get laid off and replaced by a new wave of college grads.
that 12-8 would be sweet. work 8-5 during the day, sleep till midnight and go a 12-8 shift.
maybe i would actually be ontime to my day job too.
haha x2
I pretty much work 12x8 most of the time… it’s both good and bad as I do tend to be lazy in the morning and it’s hard to meet up for lunch, happy hour and other events with people… the one thing that makes it tolerable is that I can leave early on most days and just carry a work cell phone with me for if anything comes up. I don’t get shift differential, but then again I’m making a lot more than this posting so meh.
-Position requires flexibility to work from 8 AM to 8 PM, Monday-Friday.
That was enough to scare wifey off
QFT … sad when you get a bachelor’s degree in business only to find out that the best job you can get is playing at being a phone jockey doing customer service. Life in the US of A is really starting to suck.
What a low paying job and shitty sounding job! I wonder how much the guy/girl in that position made before they axed them.
Well companies need to be loving this. There is a ton of college graduates that need jobs so they can put “College degree required” and have a ton of applicants when in the past, the only people that would fill this job were typically high school grads who missed the college boat.
fully vested pension after 7 years … I have 3 months
when are other people getting fully vested for pension / 401k? I hit mine back at 5 years in.
When I was at Fedup…i was fully vested after 5 years also.
I never checked into it because I’m 24. That shit will be long gone by the time i’m eligible to collect. It’s gonna be “I hope you saved money in your 401k, if not, sucks for you.”
Wasn’t Enrons pension plan eluded to and believed to be guaranteed? Read the fine print on any retirement/nest egg paperwork fellas. Many 401k and similar plans have stipulations that payouts are possible only if funds are available. In otherwords if a fund goes belly up there’s no course of action you can take, as per the contract.
Be sure NOT to plan on social security. Be sure to have many eggs scattered and do NOT rely on a pension or 401k solely. Be diverse and have some tangible assets should the paper markets crash or implode. This is a era where we must be on our toes and cannot blindly believe what we’re being fed. Sheep are often led to be slaughtered.
Pension systems rely on the plans investments making profit and continued participation of current workers adding to the pool of funds. Continuous liquidity is needed to backfill the fund as it pays out to those retired already and when the market drops and profits get slender. Too many what if’s for me to not have diversification.
I’m not saying all doom n’ gloom, just that we are the ONLY ones in control of our fiancial future and planning. Take proper precautions now so your future will be secure.
Wild economic times here…insane.
Yeah, its bad out there. I won’t rely on my Citigroup pension, thats for sure lol.
We have tons of people with bachelors, and masters degrees working for 13-16 bucks per hour, and they are perfectly content with it.
Its nuts.
Citi is horrible with lowballing salaries, thats the whole reason they moved shit here from NYC. For a section manager position with an MBA they wanted to pay me like $36-$38k. I was about to go all Jerry Maguire on their asses, SHOW ME THE MONEY!
I’ve got a Bachelors in Finance from UB…and I’d be happy to be makin $12.60 at this point =/ Theres NOTHING out there…not in Buffalo at least
Fuck im gonna be a cashier for the rest of my life. I knew even having a diploma wouldn’t do me any good.
Never will retire, a 90 year old: thank you come again.
on paper this sounds great and all but i have heard about this job from atleast 20 people and nyspeed…good luck actually getting hired
your right there is a lot of people that are sending there resume’ssssss in … what they are doing is letting the wang hing out there for about a week or so then they will look at all apps with “Employee Referral” first then will look at the others … sooo if you have a referral you have a better chance then the next asshole
