Insurance Question

Last week, i got into a little fender bender that involved me being stupid and rear ending someone because I wasnt paying attention. go ahead and laugh and make fun of me. shit happens im over it. [COLOR=Black][SIZE=2]It was a black Dakota like my old one. So we did the usual, pull over, exchange the information, and the guy was like “oh yeah dont even worry about it my dad owns a junkyard and a body shop and we have like 5 of these trucks I’ll just throw another bumper on it later” im like uhh ok so he gave me his insurance information and everything, and i went to give him mine and he was like “oh dont worry about it, im not at all concerned about it or anything” so said ok are you sure? well heres my info please take it just in case. his back bumper was bent up a bit, nothing major. i was going MAYBE 10 mph tops when i hit him, and i was more or less coasting, not accelerating or decelerating. My jeep has a little ding the size of a quarter in the bumper and the passenger fender was a little bent, and I actually pulled it out and straightened it back to the way it should be no problem.

So, the guy calls me today, over a week later, and informs me that I supposedly did $4,000 worth of damage to his truck, and that when he called his insurance company and gave them my policy number, they said that I had been dropped from my insurance policy and was no longer insured. I confirmed my information with him, and promptly called my insurance company, who said that sounded a bit fishy and that I had not been dropped.

At some point, I wanted to get an aftermarket front bumper for my Jeep anyway, but is there any way I can get the body shop doing the work on my Jeep to perhaps install a new bumper other than the OEM one when they replace it? Does it depend on the body shop, or will most only do what the insurance company wants, and I would assume thats replace everything with OEM parts?

If you pay for the parts, they should have no problem installing a bumper you want, as long as you ok it. They may even pay a bit of the bumper you buy based off of the amount of the OEM replacement.

what the fuck Mike. All of that backstory, including conspiracy… and you’re question is about upgrading your bumper?

Yes, you can upcharge the work, you pay the difference. Talk to the body shop.

As far as the “fishy” biz, did you get a police report @ the time of the accident?

the one I had my eye on was like $180. Comparatively, a new fender from the dealer is like $1000, and a reproduction one is $300, so I would think an OEM bumper would be pretty expensive. In theory, the less money the insurance company has to dish out, the better for them so I would think they would be all for fixing it with a lower cost option

yeah I have the report and everything and it documents what the other guy said about it “not being a big deal.” the guy didnt even want to call the cops but I did for the fact that I wanted a report for this very reason.

You have redeemed yourself. Carry on.

i am like oh great mike is getting sued and it goes right into a bumper story

and this one time, when i was at band camp, i stuck a flute in my pussy.

wait wat?

amirite?

yeah i prob could have “cut right to the chase” but i needed to vent a little bit lol. i was a bit upset.

EDIT: after going back over the police report, it seems as if the cop did me a favor and made it seem as a “no fault” collision.

no fault still effect you though. trust me. some dumb Asian back into me in the maple tops parking lot. i was in reverse with my foot on the bakes. she gets out and tells me i hit her.before i strangled her i called apd. i had a witness they ruled it no fault because i was in reverse although i was not moving. It still effected my insurance.

you have more problems…lol…

sigh

did u check his vitals after you rear ended him

lol i wasnt even working that day.
