Internet Options

I beg to differ.

Rev A is fast enough that I was able to video-conf. while on an Acella train at 150mph. shrugs if that’s not enough for you vs dial-up :violin:

If AT&T has 3G in your area check out an HSDPA card. They’re a lot less gay than verizon with the restrictions, and latencies are manageable, usually in the 100’s for me.

i doubt you have any factual basis to back that up.

OP, i know someone that uses hughes.net in canada, its actually not all that bad… def an option. I am pretty sure you can trial it, if it is not good enough cancel it.

yaa ive decided against anything expensive at the moment. Just got a dental bill of $750 our of my pocket. So somebody buy all my computer shit alright? fuck…

notrly

they dont want a few people sucking up all the bandwidth, effectively killing the experience for everyone else.

god…it would be cheaper to move out. lol

dooooooooooooo it, get the f out of strykercity. haha im still waiting for dsl to come to my house, it would be alot cheaper than stupid wildblue, wont even let me play xbox live.

living with rents (even for free) FTL

no i’m just at 2-5 homes/business all around WNY everyday…
how would i know what works?

I understand that, but why is it advertised as unlimited then?

5GB a month is only enough to occasionally use to browse the internet, and check your mail. I normally download in excess of 5Gb a day…

If its fast though, i suppose its worth it.

20 years old. go fuck yourself

lol nnnno

its great for people who arnt downloading movies and/or music all day

you know getting out on you own could be cheeper in the long run if your driving to school and such…really look into it

but i am in the same shit options that you are in but i dont even have cell phone coverage at my house. or in the town… and my localnet does not even go higher then 12kbs dont even try to look at porn with that speed… there is no sat option for me threw dishnetwork so right now im stuck :gotme:

Believe me, I have. Its just convenient to live at home for free, and have my work be only 10 min away. School is only 35 min away, and I get 34mpg. Its much much cheaper living at home. Anyway, Ive made up my mind just to live with the shitty connection. Id rather not spend $60 a month for inconsistent crap that wont even allow for online gaming. Thanks for the input anyway guys.

show me these ping results then - because i’ve seen anything but the opposite.

maybe you just set their stuff up wrong :rolljerk:

another option would be internet via. cellphone/card. it’s better then 56K and you can take it places with you.

Just basic physics.

A satellite signal has to take about a 84000 km trip to reach us here in WNY since they orbit the equator and we’re well north of that. Even at the speed of light that radio waves travel that’s 280ms of delay just in the transmission. Now add in any additional delay from the internet and yeah, you aren’t going to be online gaming worth a damn.

I can answer any question about Wild Blue that you might have. I am a certified installer.

I’m sure you saw they offer three different packages. Normally we have people start at the lowest package and upgrade for more speed if needed. There is no charge to upgrade (just the difference in package price), and it can be upgraded with a five minute phone call.

As far as snow sticking to the dish, if your that concerned, it can be put lower as long as there are no trees, tall buildings, etc in the SW. If you have a dish for TV, it points the same direction. A pole mount in the ground is also an option that doesn’t cost any extra.

It is NOT designed to be used for online gaming. Like the others wrote, satellite internet lags a shitload.

It is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster then dialup if thats what your using. You won’t be disappointed.

PM me if you have any other questions.

While I appreciate the info, I still cant justify the monthly fee. Thanks though.
