Internet Provider Options?

So I’ve gotten fed up with Time Warner’s shitty service and I am more then likely going to be discontinuing my service at the end of the month with them. Satelite TV has a pretty good promotional offer they’re offering to new customers so I think I am going to be going with them.

I’ve been trying to look for a different internet provider that will offer unlimited bandwith and won’t be slow as hell. I wasn’t sure what everyone on here was using and thought I might reach out on here. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

not too many options off the top of my head, but I think Verizon is pretty good and cheap. They have that little mobile hotspot device too where you can take your laptop anywhere wifi or not, pretty cool on road trips and shit.

everything besides time warner is going to be slow unless verizon FIOS is available in your area.

yes its cool but the internet service on it sucks, it drops out about once an hour and you have to take the battery out to reset it, its 5g bandwith per month, and they buttfuck the shit out of you if you cancel.

+1. Wish I had FiOS here.

I’ve never had problems with TW (like 10 years now) and I have their RR Turbo service. I average about 1.8MB/s on downloads. Have you asked them to replace your router? I did about 5 months ago and my speeds improved.

+1 for Satellite

Unfortunately, your not going to find a better ISP than Time Warner at this time unless you have FiOS in your area.

Which Satellite provider are you going with?

+1 to all of it.

What is the price dif over reg?

Also I bought a router/wireless, and that is what I use for RR, are they still required to give me a router? What I mean, is a router rental included in the monthly cost? This is really if anyone knows… Yes I know I can call them, and I am going to later, just cant right now.

I pay $59 I believe. I get 15 down and 1 up. If you bought a cable modem that has wireless built in, you can use that. You aren’t required to use theirs. I plan to upgrade mine to one from Motorola and get rid of the one they gave me.

I just checked for kicks and Fios is cheaper with a directv package deal than TWC. I might have to seriously look into this, its available in saratoga so I dont see how it cant be available to all of you down by albany.

No what I am saying is I want the one they give you. So I can use a separate N speed wireless off of that. Mine is a Motorola modem/wireless in one, and I think the wireless is shitty on it, and its b/g speed. I bought that separate tho, so its not like I make them give me another one.

So did I. I cant get it here in cowland though.

idk verizon seems like it has alot of strings attached… maybe not i dont know

RR has been SUCKIN here BADLLYYYY had a tech over a few times, no luck its the same garbage…

i tether mostly now haha

Get the wideband

$75 per month for Fios internet and Directv package, unfortunatly they tack on a shit ton of 1 time fees that you dont have to pay with TWC. $304 just to get everything setup.

Holy balls thats bank. I thought time warner was a rip off

Now I wonder if its RR and not my modem/router. When you guys say its shitty, what is it doing? I have drops of no service for up to 30secs sometimes. Happens to all PCs that are on my network, at the same time, wired or wireless, thats why I thought it was the router.

im waiting for FIOS to come to my area. no lines out here yet. i saw their speeds and its 3X road runner for the same amount. and upload is like 5x faster. soon as theyre here, im switchin.

It might be the router. Ask for a new one. I did and I got better speeds (although I was getting great speeds before). I’m paying for 15 down and 1 up and I was getting that, got a new router and got 20 down and 1 up. Probably because I live in a rural area and use all the bandwidth lol.

To answer your earlier question…YES…you can plug in your own wireless router into their cable modem.

Wall outlet > Cable Modem > RJ-45 cable to Internet Port on your new Wireless Router > Profit

Same here. Can’t wait. Although I did just put a query out to TW about Road Runner Extreme (their version of FiOS). It didn’t say I was in an area that DIDN’T have it, so maybe I’ll give that a run if they have it. It’s $20/month extra…so $80/month for internet, but that’s fine with me since I do a LOT of data transfers between my site, hobbies, and gaming. It’ll do until FiOS comes here (only TV is available right now).

I have direct tv and love it over cable. I had Verizon internet when I orignally got Direct TV. Time warners internet is noticibly faster so I use there internet and phone which i hardly use and direct tv.
