well i think im going to consolidate to get rid of all the extra things i carry ona daily basis.
im looking at an older 2g model vs the new 3g… both would obviously be unlocked since i have tmobile, but the new 3 is probably EASY 200+ bucks more than an older 2g.
is the speed THAT much faster on the newer 3g version, also is there more to utilize on the newer one or will the 1st gen be just fine
in the little bit of data using that i do i notice the 3g loads the pages a decent amount faster so since your probably going to do a lot of data usage it might be worth it.
how terribly slow is the page upload on the 1st gen? i have tmobile’s internet on my phone and ill admit, its damn slow, but thats not a data package, just the 5 dollar a month deal
well from what ive used them (i dont own one and i have at&t) the google maps app on the newest one has maybe a 2-5 second load time while browsing which was pretty good for it being a phone.
On tmobles network I don’t think that its going to make much of a difference. I say that because their advertised 3g top speed is no where near what atat’s is. I would say that if it takes edge to load a page in 15 seconds, 3g will do it in about 5 or less. Of course thats with a good signal.
As far as I know, the iPhone 3g isn’t even unlockable yet - although it is close. There are also rumors that it is incompatible with T-mobile’s 3G network.
If that’s true, then you are definitely better off with the first gen iPhone.
well i got one tonight… i got the 1st gen, and im REALLY happy with the speed of the internet pages and videos… it seems just as fast as my home and i have cable…
everything is good on it… couple hiccups like the fact that my face will end a call on accident, or that it just feels weird to talk on your ipod
other than that, im looking forward to tomorrow being a really boring day at work so i can play
Ya. You cant use a 3G on another network so if you are considering getting a 3G, make the switch to ATT.
EDGE is slow as hell. When my phone is on EDGE up by niagara falls or north tonawanda and when I travel its brutally slow compared to 3G for browsing the internet.
The 3G phone also has GPS (actual GPS chip, not like the 2g one that uses cell towers to figure out where you are) and some other improvements to the hardware.
I was in the same boat tho. I travel a lot and had the 16GB iPod touch and a cell phone. Decided when my company switched to ATT to go on my own ATT plan since I text like a high school girl and get an iPhone so my music and email and everything is on one device.
well this has been good to me today. Everythig is fast and woke great granted my spelling isn’t the best cause I have ginormous man hands but I’m happy. I’ve heard that the new 3g is already unlocked and can be used down her but it’s expensive to get one unlocked
Ya it is night and day between the two in most areas.
I’ve never had it hang up on my against my face. Press the lock button in a call and it locks the screen so you can’t hang it up on accident. My issue is I grab my phone when I am in the call and forget to lock the screen and hit the big ass hang up button.
What features are you talking about? 3G? WiFi? BlueTooth? Games?
if the screen is on and using data like running Pandora or WunderRadio you can bet it will be dead in a few hours. If you use the iPod and play music with the screen off, it goes for about 12 or more depending on what else you are doing. If you really turn off stuff (no wifi, no 3g, no push email, low screen brightness, and dont keep turning the screen on) the thing will last like 1 1/2 - 2 days in standby. Keep it in edge when calling and you will getl onger talk times too but again, its not really needed.
