Jeeze its going back and forth, first it was the new Iphone than it wasnt and now it is again. I hope it is, that looks like a huge improvement from the current models.
I doubt the iphone 4 will be enough to regain the more techy customers Apple has already lost to Android, not that they are a huge % of the customer base anyways.
The iPhone, like any apple product, is more for the ‘casual user’ or ‘basic user’. That’s why they are so popular I think, because they made the devices easy to use (no problem in that, I’ll give credit where it’s due). But how many REAL techy’s or IT professionals would pick Apple over anything else every time? Not many.
I think a bunch of carriers will be getting this phone since AT&T’s contract is ending. So you Verizon folks (or even T-Mo/Sprint people) who want an iPhone may just get it. And then AT&T will die because it is the worst network of the major 4.
Not true, I know many IT Pros that prefer the iPhone. Sure you can make the argument on how locked down the phone is, no open source etc communists bla bla bla. Seriously though, having android for quite awhile now, aside from being able to customize the look without having to hack it, theres not one thing I couldent do on the iPhone I can do on Android. A lot of the shit you can do is more of a novelty and because I can more than, I do this because I need it.
Anything you NEED on the iPhone to use it for e-mail/calender and basic office tasks along with being your personal phone you can do with the OS, and do it quite well I might add. Sure you can say yea but if I wanted to do this on my phone I can, your phone you couldent even if youw anted to… Well you know what, after abotu 20 mins yous top giving a shit abotu the cool shit you can do on your phone that the iphone cant and you go back to using it as a tool and not a novelty device.
Having used all the major phone OS’s now pretty extensively a lot of this has become more clear to me now. I love my Android phone don’t get me wrong, but to be honest, I still say to this day the iPhone OS is a much more pleasent experiance, the fact that it couldn’t multi task bugged me sometimes, but for the most part that was few and far between. Everything else the phone does, is extremely smooth and easy without loosing functionality, and until another OS gets as smooth, iPhone will continue to dominate the masses. The reason apple dident allow multitasking in the first place is because well for exmaple look at the other smartphone OS’s, yes you can multiask and do it quite well, but if you don’t stay on top of things the phone slows down, gets sluggish and unpleasent. I have to autokill apps on my phone quite frequently when I’m using it even when OCed to 1.2GHZ because well, when you start opening a ton of shit and a ton of services are opened that dont close down on the spot, your shit slows down. People can bitch and complain about the iPhone not being able to multitask all they want, but I bet iPhone fags arent complaining about their phone slowing down every so often from to much shit open
Now the new multitasking isnt as robust as android/WM etc… but i bet it will still be smooth and hardly slow down the phone at all, apple does their homework, even the shit people see as a shortcomming , there was a reason behind why they dident do it. not just to be communist fucks.
Valid points. I agree the phones runs great and never lags, but I don’t know if this ‘addition by subtraction’ is good. Meaning, subtract true multi-task to make the phone run better. For me personally, I wouldn’t like it.
Regardless, every phone has it’s pro’s and con’s. I just don’t like people who constantly talk as if the iPhone is the ONLY good phone out there or as if Mac is the ONLY good OS out there. Those people piss me off. People who are technical and understand what they are talking about make valid points and I understand them. I used to be Pro-WebOS only…didn’t like Android’s look…and now I’m open to it.
Pro’s and con’s. The EVO sounds like EXACTLY what I want. The iPhone? Not so much. But I hope it does good so that HTC has some incentive to keep popping out some sick ass phones.
Haha. RIGHT.
Being the mobile manager at my company, I’ve had all 4 networks in my office pitching their network. Verizon spends 50% more than any other network on their expansion, maintenance, etc. Sprint was next with the figures given to me. Followed by T-Mo and then AT&T. Also, AT&T is constantly getting the worst consumer report reviews of the 4. There is only 1 spot where I get crappy service here in our area. That is in Coeymans Hollow on Gedney Hill Rd. That’s it. I travel a lot for work all over the NE and as far south as WV and VA. NEVER have issues with network or internet.
I used to have 20+ AT&T wireless aircards. I am now down to 10 and the other 11 or so are Verizon. People are reporting MUCH better results with Verizon. I’m sure if I gave the rest that aren’t on Verizon Sprint or T-Mo solutions, they’d still be happier.
Verizon = Good phone selection, great service but you pay out the wazoo for it
Sprint = Good phone selection, great network in my opinion, and plans that are much more affordable than some of the other carriers
T-Mobile = Good phone selection (HD2, etc.), similar to sprint in terms of pricing, don’t know anyone who has service from them so can’t comment on that
AT&T = Expensive, okay service, lots of dropped calls. Only benefit they have right now is the talk + data. That’s about to end.
Too each his own. Based on what their reps told me and what consumer reports…well, report…I’m inclined to say that I disagree with you. Agree to disagree. Sprint is working hard to lose the stigma that it attained a couple of years ago. I’ve had nothing but awesome dealings with them for the last 5 years. I would recommend them to anyone, anytime.
Not bashing. It has it’s pro’s compared to other phones. I just don’t like people who say it’s the best and nothing but the best. It’s only ‘the best’ at a couple of things. But you know what. Whatever makes people happy. I had nothing but good experiences with my Pre for the first 8 months of owning it. Now I hate it. So I’m going to the next phone. I’m sure I’ll love that for a year or so before I want something new.
As far as release date, I’m hearing mid-summer (june/july) on the EVO forums.
Just a note… sprint spends, but the sub-contractors they use are often several layers deep and lots of money for less production… I have frineds in the tower/land lease and maintenance of many carriers… Sprint is disorganized and cant make up their minds. Weekly wasteful conference calls are the norm…more than the rest.
Now they can gauge actual market response, without spending a dime on focus groups and see what they can get away with in terms of spec and how much they can really sell it for.
