The thing is, anything is possible with enough time / money to waste. The other thing to consider, is that it would not be close to its original form, and wouldnt be able to be mass produced, nor mass activated. You would have to completely replace the radios, and spoof / replace the ESN with one that is currently in VZW’s database, which last I knew is a pretty seriously penalty with the FCC. I’m sure the carrier wouldn’t just look the other way either.
The whole thing is fucking laughable. If you want a shittyfone, fucking switch to att.
edit: I’m not even going to mention the amount of code you would have to sift through and re-write.
I had a brand new Symbian powered Nokia right before I got my iPhone. Nice device and all, but not even close to being on the same level… and that was compared to the 2G / 1.0 software stuff, with what’s coming with the 3.0 software (push, more API access to everything from VOIP to tethering to location-aware services to search) and with the huge 3rd party support that Apple so intelligently fostered, the iPhone platform is a force to be reckoned with, all other OSes are going to be playing catch-up and follow-the-leader for some time (proven by, for example, the microsoft zune app marketplace, or Google’s developers’ store).
People who argue “wah wah wah removable battery wah wah SD Card slot” really don’t get it, its so much more than that - operating system and software functionality is key.
ppl with iphones are the same. Except they don’t wear suits, they wear jeans and sneakers and think they are sweet b/c they can watch youtube and collegehumor videos anywhere.
:(… You just described my office to a “T”, people with blackberry’s are the old guys that wear nothing but suits, all the corporate iPhone users are the ones that will wear jeans and chucks to work…
