I always used to find it by just throwing “random picture” into the quick search drop down and it would be one of the first 10 results since it’s a pretty active thread. Now that doesn’t return the thread I’m looking for. In fact, it only gets 26 threads found, none of them a thread who’s thread title is “Random Picture Thread”. ???
So I tried an advanced search for threads with the word, “random” in the title. Still nothing. Tried “Random” in case somehow the search magically became case sensitive, still nothing. I remember BluBalls started the thread so I did a search for threads started by user and bingo, there is it. Did the index get screwed up in the move?
Yeah, the forum search has never been very good, but at least before if you knew the thread you were looking for you could find it. Glad to hear it’s just part of the move.
It REALLY needs to be done nightly. My guess is that they are on a shitty host. Indexing is cpu intensive. If they fired the process off, it would probably bring the site to a standstill.
the terrible search has been a plague for most VB 3.8 forums. The worse is BF.c, I can not find what I am looking for on there ever. If I like a thread or think it will become useful sometime I just post in it and go through my posts
I turned off post indexing to attempt to make the site run on this host. On the new server I went ahead and reindexed ALL posts and it took like 5 minutes and the server load didn’t even move.
We will be completing the move this week, and all will be better.
