Is my clutch going??

I have a '95 LE 5spd with 215,xxx km’s on it. I bought it at 203,xxx km’s with paperwork showing that a full clutch assembly was replaced in my car at 196,xxx km’s.

Wierd thing is, since the day I got the car, the odd time when I launch from a stop it feels like the clutch chatters. This problem has gotten worse lately. It has happened so badly sometimes that I have had to put the clutch back in a try launching again because of intense chattering.

Before you guys say anything about my driving skills, I do not beat on my car (badly) and I have been driving standard for years before I got this car (ie: no riding the clutch).

A little off topic but it will loop right in with what im talking about in a sec; When I start my car, my engine rocks a fair bit, more than I would expect it to. Also, when idling, if I floor the gas, the engine hesitates for a long time before the revs shoot up. AND, when I do this the shifter shakes around like a child on too much ridelin.

So, what I’m thinking is that my motor mounts/tranny mount may be so badly gone that when I go to launch my car from a light, the engine/trans shakes around violently making it seem like a chattering clutch.

Any input on this?

PS: when I say ‘launch’ I don’t mean dropping the clutch at 6k and taking off, I just mean everyday driving.

just get some poly urathane motor and tranny mounts. you will not regret it! The engine shaking your talking about will be gone but you will have ALOT more vibration in your car!

Also on a side note, i’d check for minor oil leak around the rear of your motor. If any oil gets inbetween your clutch and flywheel (etc) it will result in chatter or slippage.

ok, so it’s worth a try replacing the motor mounts. I’ve been eyeing the nismo set, any input on this? should I go with poly urethane instead of rubber?

edit: also, how hard is installing new motor mounts? can they be done one at a time or does the whole engine need to come out?

they can be done one at a time.

Are Nismo mounts very stiff? I know their stiffer than stock but they are still rubber…

Are poly urenthane mounts still tolerable for daily driving?

Also, does anyone have link to some urethane mounts?

^^^ Good questions, if anyone knows I may be interested too.
