Is your dad a racer or a ricer?

Oh yeah my dad had an '88 Mustang LX 5.0 and he just picked my mom an '04 civic SiR. He denies being a car guy but he really is at heart.

most dad’s on here and on teh other forums this was in are domestic guys… as mentioned it was typical.

my dad ‘USED’ to be cool, he was into BMW’s and datsuns back in the 70’s when he was living in san fransisco. his cousin who is now a ranking police officer had a 280z when it came out and my dad tells me of stories when he was allowed to drive it and went very very fast…

when i was 4 in San Fran we got to hang out at my dad’s friends place, we have pics of us climbing around in Lamborghini’s and Rolls Royce’s.

there is a pic of my dad chillin in a Black on Tan Countach back then too…

those days are long long gone.

Hey guys what’s up.

My Dad used to have mint Buick Wildcat with a 454 big block under the hood when he was young. He loved that car.

Now he drives a Merc Grand Marquis, 4.7 V8. All he has done is BOSH Platnium Plugs and 8 Gauge wires and a K&N drop in air filter. He asked me how to get better gas milage and I told him that this was about all hc could do outside of buying a different car.

So I’d have to he’s neither.

Easy 8)

My dad flipped a couple of cars back in the day including a baracuda and an audi. He taught me how to drive when i was 12, it was a Toyota Tercel and it was standard, he got me behind the wheels in that thing and what a day i tell you.
when i bought my 240 he didn’t think much of it, but when he started driving it he loved it, he was gonna get a couple speeding tickets for god’s sake, i sat him down and had a talk with him. =;

Well – I’ll chime in too.

My dad is definately a racer. He’s an mining engineer by trade but his love of math, physics, engineering etc make cars a natural love.

He currently drives a 2005 Jaguar X-Type Wagon. Thing looks mean with big 18"'s on it. It’s AWD and goes like stink for what it is. He only got that one because Volvo couldn’t get him V70r quick enough and my mom made him buy a wagon…so he got a baddass wagon. What does she know – she only judges car on colour.

His most recent cars have been:

  • the Jag
  • BMW 3series Coupe
  • 95 Mitsubishi GSX Eclipse

He’s also owned Alfa Romeo’s, various BMW’s, various Porsche’s, various Audi’s, etc.

on the track it has more to do with driver, i have an SR but i know that Phil A, or Adam H would walk all over me in a SOHC KA.

when measuring which car is faster 1/4 times are a good measure, there is less room for driver variables and it is a standard measure of time and distance travelled.

a Stock SRT-4 runs low 14’s, a stock SR does not (stock exhaust, boost etc) it runs more like a higher 14, but i dont have documented proff handy at this time.

and for the record, stock times should be taken from professional sources, not friends with X-mods who ran XX.X on the strip.

On Topic:

My dad just drove boats, when the big V8s died he moved onto Minivans.,

My mom however is British, and anyone that is British has to love twisty roads and manual transmissions, if they don’t… well they just haven’t tried it!

Off Topic:

I drove my neighbour’s SRT-4 and from seat of the pants back to back with my altima it’s BARELY faster, if I had my CAI in still it’d probably be even.
I street raced a Silver SRT-4 a while back and it was almost dead even with a SMALL advantage at the beginning due to the SRT’s shorter gears, I over took him and then he was JUST starting to reel me in when I decided I was going fast enough and backed off.
He Said “That’s a fast family sedan”, and I joked “That’s a fast grocery getter!”

Handling wise it’s poor at best, my NX2000 is a much better handling FWD car. So was my 2001 Sentra SE. The SRT-4 I drove had the LSD and it still licked, BUT that’s stock… throw enough money at any problem and you’ll solve it, hell even the old Mustangs could be made to handle amazing and their rear setup dated back to the 70s.

SR20DET from a GTi-R in a car like an NX is a death machine to behold, stock they are 227hp, but all the exhaust etc will need to be custom as well as modifying it to be FMIC from the standard top mount.

the NX is around 2500lbs (for non t-top version that), giving it around 11:1 lb to hp ratio. And that’s not “curb weight” btw, that was the result of a scale at an Auto-X, with spare tire, jack interior etc all still in the car.

And that’s if you don’t take into account the gains you’ll get from custom exhaust and intake which on a turbo motor are usually considerable.
Also due to it’s low weight moderate gains in hp result in bigger gains than the heavier SRT-4.

Course you can modify an SRT-4 as well to put out more HP too… it’s all about how much money you’re willing to spend.

Phil: ALL non-Silva SR20DETs are from AWD cars, you just take off the AWD tranny (which usually isn’t even on it) and bolt on the regular FWD one that your car came with.

A little history on the NX as well…
Before the ITR came around the NX was considered the best STOCK handling FWD car.

Just defending a car that’s dear to my heart

P.S. Dodge gets my most respect for Domestic.
Sure they break but atleast Dodge goes out there and tries to make the fastest deadliest cars that normal people can afford.

Look at the 80’s, everything came with a turbo!
The Dodge Spirit R/T is still a menace (the ones that haven’t rusted or blown up) to modern cars.
And look what dodge is doing now… the return of big displacement V8s AND turbo charged stupid fast commuter cars… it’s great!

I like the SRT-4 and when my Altima was being a total POS i was considering buying one, but then I drove it and it wasn’t superior enough for my brain to warrant the money.

My daddy is definitely a racer/ricer/still thinks he’s 25.

Hes gone through soo many cars!!! Now hes lookin into buying another car…as you guys already know…my family owns 4 cars (1988 mazda mx6 LX manual, 1989 nissam maxima auto, 1990 nissan 300zx manual, 1997 nissan 240sx SE manual. Only 3 of us drive, now comes car #5…i think its either an S13 or a PRELUDE (barf).

In order to get my dad to drive faster on the highway or road…just tell him you’re late for work, or…pop in a trance CD and all of a sudden he’s doing 170km/hr on the highway! it works!

My mom on the other hand…omg…shes the one with the 300zx, 5 speed, silver, Loves her car more then her kids (j/p) She’s always checkin the weather network to see how the weather is so that she can either drive her car or take the t-tops off haha. Oh, and on her way home from work…sometimes ricer boys try to match up with her, and she races them. Thats my MOMMA!

Super cool parents, who love cars, supportive, and are young at heart. What more can i ask for sigh

Well the car history goes right through my whole family not only my dads side but my moms as well.
My dad is 57 so he went through when the whole muscle car stage was starting up. His first car was 1965 pontiac gto convertible 389 tripower with a 4 speed transmission. As far as owning cars with performance he stays with the american muscle and classic cars. Hes owned 4 hemi powered mopars , Gone through the big block gm’s, even owned a copo Camaro!! Right now we currently have just under a dozen classic cars That get driven the odd time!!! As far as the import scene my dad supports it because we are doing the exact same things they used to do in their day, just do a slightly different extent. Most of my friends compete in import shows all around Ontario Quebec and the United States, and fully supports what the youth are doing and find its a good way to keep yourself out of trouble to a certain extent. He feels most of the ppl that give a negative attitude to the Sport compact car owners who spend hard earned money to mod up there cars, are usually the ones that are jealous that they didn’t have enough “balls” to do it themselves when they were our age!!!

my brother owned bought a 260z from the dealer and his second car was a 240z

240z shot mighty flames and was known to kill almost every domestics of its time

my second car was a 240sx

he calls me a chachi

but im a better driver.

my brother is old enough to be my dad.

My dads a racer, He ownes a jag Stype, used to race formula 3000 for a couple of years, He loves My car also, loves to drive it(i love when he drives it he always puts gas in)

My mom  “hey thats pretty!” its slow and boring “but its pretty” she has a ford expedition.

Hahahaha I think my dad falls into neather of the choices.
I am going to go with Booring. let me see of what I can remember we have had a 91/97/00/04 ford tortus, 02 malibu, 88 celeberty, Amc Hornet, Special K. He almost bought a Bright Yellow 240z like 20 something years ago but then freaking backed out. “ooooooooooo I am kids bla bla bla”

I can not remember what els he had. but Ya He does not like me spending much money on my car but he does understand my love and everything els for the automobile.

My mom is a little better
Dinesity, 96 MoteCarlo, 2002 Alero (British racing green and 5 speed), and now the Altima 3.5. But she was also at one point looking at a 300zx. I think it is the quebec in her that makes her cooler then the old man.

wait wait!!

i can get MORE off topic.

i like to eat cheese while ice skating@!@

BACK ON TOPIC LADIES.

GT

Meh I’m being a prick but either way your comparing the Altima (a car with no potential to be anything other than a glorified taxi) and one of the hottest imports to hit the scene in years. The choice is simple. You have no turbo and the SRT does. SRT is the choice.

if one more person goes off topic in this thread im banning you. dont you know how to listen? bomex got it… why cant you people…?

nocwage,solarian,spd-dmn,TM

you guys dont know when to stop. if you want to bicker like school girls then take it to pm or go touch eachothers asses in person.

youve been told.

GT

my dad is insane…
both me and him race motorcycles, and we do all the work on our cars, even though hes lazy and doesnt want to mod or mazda 6…
but he wont stop me modding a 240!

so, id call im a racer… just cuz we pushed 225 on highway 10 with me on the back in the summer…
good times

my dad used to drive an 87 accord, now a 2000 maxima, he drives like it’s sunday everday now

but I swear he used to be crazy b/c when I first started to drive when I Was 16, he always tell me to stop a car length away from the white line at a red light so I can beat the car beside me :stuck_out_tongue:

To actualy return to the REAL topic here.

My dad is a racer. He owned when he was 18 a 25th ani Corvette Pace Car Edition. He sent it back to Chevy when it was using like 1L of oil a month. When he got it back he put headers on it and took it too the strip. A stock 25th Corvette rand the 1/4 mile in about 15.1sec his ran a 14.0sec 1/4mile. He found out Chevy had raised the compression of his engine after re seating the piston seals lol. He also owned a Honda CBX 1100 I cant imaging riding a bike with a V6 in it must have been very fast. He now still loves fast cars. He dose not hate my car but he is not happy about it either I guess I understand being that he works for GM.

My Dad just loves cars for what they are.

He loves 240’s but hates all the work I’ve done to mine, his pet peeve is when he borrows my car and gets a bunch of 240ers staring at him, lol.
But yeah he loves luxurious: I guess it comes with age.
