it got weird on steve2k2116's e46 m3 the other day....

As I said to you the other day, your exhaust is artwork.

Thannkssss menggggg

Looking great Jay, can’t wait for you to get crazy with my 911 soon. Glad I could help out!

X…

I’m glad you could help too. Such a nice garage to shoot in. Your car will be saucy, can’t wait.

Wonder what mine would sound like with the headers. Been dreaming of a filthy habits exhaust.

How long does something like this actually take you (actual work hours)? Do you cut/tack while everything is in the car, and then final weld?

this is really hard to answer, obviously its job specific. id say I have around 30-40 hours into this.
and that’s a very LARGE estimate.
I really took my time on this one, I had more time than usual to finish this project so I took it.
id say I have about 4 hours into each tip alone ha.

I don’t cut anything while its on the car, that would be very hard.

occasionally I do tack some things while under the car. such as tips and hangers.

I wasn’t inferring that you cut anything while it was on the car. I assumed the workflow would be something like-- mock up a piece>cut it>weld it>test fit. From the sounds of it, you probably spend a lot of time just putting the pieces on and taking them off over and over to test fitment?

thanks homie

QUE?!

That looks and sounds amazing. Nice work. I like how the exhaust tips have some “attitude” to them.

really depends man. sometimes I can measure for the bends and cut my elbows accordingly. that way requires no test fit at all. I usually just make my cuts and tack it.
other times its on off-on-off-on-ff…on…fuck…

I had to do this on mpd’s car as I was fixing the header collectors and making the y pipe for them. they were on and off about 80 times.

there are some “steps” I do take during the fab process.
one being welding the entire exhaust, hanging it on the car, and THEN welding the tips on. stainless likes to pull while being welded, so waiting till the end to weld on the tips ensures they will meet the bumper cut outs like I want.

thanks holmes, that was the plan

impossible to make those cars sound good without headers. Like the tips on the exhaust.

your attention to detail is great, nice work!

Very true. His are In route. Thanks buddy

Clearly late to the party here, but as before, that is weldporn. It just looks fantastic.

I’m not an engineer but that looks insanely complicated. I guess if it sounds the way you want it, more power to you. My caveman brain just says “STRAIGHT LINES, NO BENDS”

come vacation here and make me p-car stuffs <3

Ha yes I hear you. It technically is “straight pipes” ha. Well more straight through.

If I fly to goddamn Los Angeles, I’m not making anything, except for bad decisions.

lol

Car sounds amazing! I just purchased a low mileage e46 m3 last weekend and I can not stand the sound of the exhaust right now. I went from the STi rumble to rasp. Drives me crazy. Oh and your tig welding makes me 100% jealous, I tig some at work but maybe 1 or 2 things a month right now but your work is amazing!
