IT Guys - More imaging questions

Any of you use a program like Acronis to backup an image to dissimilar hardware?

Meaning, take an image of a Latitude D620 using an Acronis CD that has the drivers (chipset - which should include storage) for all my other models and deploy it on say an Optiplex 780?

I keep seeing HAL mentioned on Acronis’ site. Where are the HAL drivers located? I got a couple from the i386 folder (off the XP SP3 CD)…is it safe to assume they are the same for every installation of Windows XP SP3 in the world? However, when I try to import them into the Acronis program to build the CD, it tells me no valid .inf’s are available although I did copy a HAL.inf file in.

Trying to make one image to maintain instead of having 10 that I have to update one by one (drivers, updates, software, etc.).

Oh man… you should of been in my class today. Some dude talking about how he has never heard anyone give him a good proof about God or religion, you woulda been hekka butt hurt
