IT people what certs do you hold?

or maybe my work is just gay. they lock down the internet tighter than a 4 foot virgin. My PC too until i registry hacked the shit out of it.

Highest Avaya certification in Enterprise IP Telephony

I think one of my friends is trying to get a job over with you…he has all the Avaya certs.

Well if he knows you we def aren’t hiring him.

Anyone have any Network certs? Debating if I wanna ramp up my data certs now since I have the voice side covered but not sure if I wanna stay with a vendor specific one like CCNA or JNCIA.

Also anyone have a linux cert?

I know people with Linux+ and its a joke…The redhat one gets some respect.

Im studying for the JNCIA and CCNA right now probably take the CCNA in a couple weeks.

I would just finish the CCNA since its the ground work for everything network related.

Ya the only thing is that exam is well known but its 80% Cisco specific and only 20% networking concepts so debating just taking my JNCIA one

You have two options with the CCNA now…

Take the CCNA exam in 1 part or take the CCENT and then another exam to get the CCNA.

The first book/CCENT for the CCNA is all theory.

I don’t know what the JNCIA would do for someone local nobody runs Juniper well besides Level3/Timewarner or major carriers lol

Continuing on with a discussion about security/hacker certs from another thread. What would be an ideal route to take as far as phishing emails, and malware prevention? Or is there such a cert that covers this.

You would really want to waste money on certifications for malware and phishing emails?

pffft I’m not paying for it. I’d like something that encompasses those 2 areas. I know CEH does some of that.

A+

Just started net+ and after that planning my ccna…

Targeted malware attacks and malware reverse engineering are huggeeee right now and its pays $$$$$$$$$$$

However none of the current “security certs” will really help with that.

OSCP>CPTE>CEH>Sec+

Unless you work for the DoD or some company that mandates you have CEH or Sec+

SANS has a bunch of great certs but they’re all expensive

That looks like something that’d I’d be interested in.

Yea its a good course I have the cert and work for Mile2 lol

I’m in the process of developing some new course work for that cert and will probably be teaching some of it online in early December.

All of these classes can be good or bad depending on the teacher and their real world experience.

CCNA,(network) CCDA,(design) CSE (sales) I should be able to go out and pass the security/wireless with no prob but it wasnt a requirement during my employment with Cisco

So I’m looking to go back to school for a degree in IT. I currently have my bachelors of Criminal Justice and am hoping to somehow incorporate that degree and the IT degree and get into something along the lines of Cyber Security. ManktheTank mentioned the Medialle Cyber Crime program which I have been looking into. After reading all 10 pages, it’s looks as though getting a degree/certs would help get an interview but its the real world application and hands on experience that will actually get the job. I do have “some” knowledge with computers but none that I would be comfortable handling a job as a Help desk tech.

I’m sure I could easily teach myself all there is to know about computers but would getting into a classroom and learning the principles of an OS or how to configure a server, etc be best? I’m currently looking at Bryant and Stratton and ITT tech as both are located in Amherst and able to work out a night class type schedule. Or would that Medaille “certification” in Cyber crime be sufficient enough for what my goals are?

If you want a job in InfoSec plan on moving out of Buffalo for the most part.

DON’T GOTO ITT its a waste of money.

I can confirm this…unfortunately. You are better off getting books from Barnes and Noble and teaching yourself…seriously.

You’re better off getting a 2 year degree from ECC for cake decorating and moving into IT then going to ITT.

Actually ECC actually has a network security program
