Just so You know Mike, on those Dodge’s, you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT adjust your timing on them by turning the distributor. You have to put the distributor in at TDC and leave it. The timing adjustments can only be made through the computer by someone with the Dodge software(Goodluck Finding that guy). I’d go with what Paul said, I think your 180 off.
maybe not 180 but at least a tooth or two. it usually doesnt matter where you make #1 on the cap (i’m more familiar with sbc’s) line everything up and where ever the rotor is pointing make that #1 and follow the firing order on the cap from there
so what you’re saying is that i cant pull that gear out and turn it a little bit? and the distributer isnt turned by a gear, there is something that looks like a flathead screwdriver on the bottom of the distributer, and that goes into a slot of the gear in the eingine. thats kidna hard to visualize unless you’ve seen it, and id scan in a page out of the shop manual to show it, but im at work lol.
ok so we got further today
UPDATE:
-it runs
-it was running fairly strong and idling fine for a little while
-some white smoke was noticed after idling for a minute or so
-after consulting some people we think that its because the disturbutor is not tightened down
-tighten disturbortor down but leave it just loose enough to turn
-now the engine starts, idles for a few seconds then dies out
-moving distrbutor back and forth has no effect on this solution
-the engine will continue to run with throatle applied
-smoke still remains
anyone have any ideas? maybe someone can stop by and take a look at it and see if you can notice anything else.
White smoke might be coolant… It could run like ass if you’re not getting compression when things heat up…
How’s your head gasket?
^ :word: sounds like the headgasket wont seat properly. maybe a mistake was made when they milled the heads for trueness?
i found out 2 of the plug wires were in the wrong places, so i fixed that. the engine runs smoother now, however it still dies out after running for a few seconds. its like the initail startup is good, then ocne it tries going into ‘closed loop’ (i think thats the propor term) it dies. its also running STUPID rich and blowing a lot of clear fluid out the tailpipes.
hows ur idle air control valve
cleaned it out…seems alright?
BUMP a coupple epope, offered to stop over and take a look, but seem to be busy (which is ok i understand) if any1 else wants to have a look please let me know. your help would be greatly appreciated!
i would take a look at it, but i dont really know much about these engines, wait for some experienced help. good luck. oh and if u wanna borrow a compression tester i have one, i live off of dellwood which is off longmeadow.
its running it was the timing like i figured. check engine light was on went and scanned it threw at iat sensor. only thing now is a slipping tranny eeeeeeekkkkkkkk
stupid question, but is the tranny fluid low?
nope we filled it. its weird it just keeps shifting into he said he had a plug left over from the install so when i get to work iam going to pull up mitchewll see if i can find n e thing
