dunno man… i didn’t fall for the solstice til i saw a black one at cozumel last week. the front end is greater than star
but in the end… wouldn’t you just rather have a nice, american V8? a 30pack, and a shotgun as well?

Sky > Solstice , but that’s just me.
I have a V8 now, and I hate it
LOL dude i know EXACTLY what you’re saying here. Trust me. It was amazing for the jetta to leave the garage on its own will this spring. It hasnt done that in 4 months.
But as far as shit breaking on you after a major fix, been there done that. I had 1200 into the rebuild of the vr6, bottom end, headgasket, timing chains, samco’s, so on…
After it goes back on the road… Alignment, camber kit, halfshaft, two wheel bearings, powersteering pump, battery, pads, two motor mounts.
I’ve put over 2k into in since the first of the year. Ouch.
Aye. Rough for sure. Just get it done, put it past you, and move onto the next car.
Damn bro. That is the suck.
how long have i been sayin this about vdubs. lol
anyways, if you are looking for a worry free car, i wouldnt go saturn. we had so many problems with ours and most everyone i know that had/has a saturn tells the same stories. not to mention they didnt cover shit under warranty.
i beat teh shit out of my saturn everyday and i havent done a thing to it other than a balljoint and a radiator (well it needs a radiator but i didn’t replace it) and it has 189K
my friend has a audi B5A4 2.8 with 15XK on it and other than a couple of contoll arm problems and some wheel bearings the car has been really good to him. he drives it pretty hard too. how are the A6’s? are they more reliable? thats what i’m looking at but i’m definately gonna be pounding on it daily.
Thanks guys.
The Saturn will be a fun car, not a daily driver. After all it’s a 2 seater roadster. I’ve learned you need to have a car to get to work, and a fun car.
somedude: Don’t buy an A6. Honestly.
i poster in the other thread asking about this and didn’t really get any asistance. it seems that a lot of your problems revolved around letting a bunch of idiots work on your car. if you would have done the tranny yourself do you think this situation would exist?
also the one i’m loking at is a 6speed MTX no more autotragic for me. what are some good forums to read up on these cars?
IBAWDrifter&Walter
No that situation wouldn’t exist.
Check out audiworld.com
I didn’t tell you about all the other shit that’s broken before the situation:
Rear hub - 600 dollars
ABS sensor - 150 dollars
Wheel bearings galore - 300 dollars
Ignition control module and coilpacks - 200
Tiptronic shifter assembly - no idea because I don’t care, but probably 300 dollars minimum
Gauge cluster - never fixed because it’ll just fail again, they all do
Timing belt and water pump every 60k - 200 dollars DIY 6 hours of work
K03 turbo - 100 dollars if you DIY one used, 600 for your average moron
MAF - who knows, probably a lot
Headliner sagging like a fuckin 1995 oldsmobile- who knows
Coolant piping - 50, pain in the ass supreme
Oil line randomly popping - 100 dollars, another major pain in the ass
This was a low mileage 38K mile florida car, so I don’t think it was beat on, especially owned by the dealership owner’s wife…service records etc.
This list is what I can think of off the top of my head, btw.
Most of those had absolutely nothing to do with any modifications, and fail often on many stock cars.
Plus regardless, the parts cost is insane. I lost a bolt that’s half the size of your pinky finger and it cost me 32 dollars with a dealer discount I have. It’s insanely expensive to even fix these cars, and my best friend’s new car is a testimony that they are built like shit and fail even stock. (rendyx’s car starting on fire at 4800 miles brand new off lot, car had just gotten it’s first oil change and was 100 percent stock to the T). Oh yeah, at 29k, a coolant line to his turbo burst killing the valve cover gasket and could have done much more damage. Not only that, but the service absolutely blows at Schmidts, so you end up going to a VW dealer for shit.
wow man, I feel your pain. only on a much, much smaller scale.
Sorry to hear that you have had some problems Don. I see a couple issues here, and I am going to try not to start a war with VW/Audi against the world. We all know how those end.
What I see is, just like you said, a 17 yr. old who saved his money and bought a car. A car that is not common to a 17 yr. old. It is a car that has expensive parts and its no secret. Thats why they were about 35k-38k new back in 97-99.
I also see an automatic car that was modified with a bigger turbo, and homemade chip. You say it drove perfect and trouble free, but who knows if the chip or just the increased hp caused the tranny problems.
Then you have the Boces class fixing your car which you knew would be an issue, and you still did it. If you didn’t have the money, then why get it back and go buy a flip out head unit to celebrate? Priorities?
Yes parts are expensive and these cars are not as reliable as Honda, Toyota, etc. I have an A4 that has required some of the same “maintenance” items and I also have a VW with an engine issue which you are well aware of. I can not go ape shit about the VW problems I have b/c it is a heavily modified car that has seen multiples of everything…
Again, it sucks, but things like this happen when you start messing with cars. Any cars.
Dude think of the positives that come out of this, you can be on the other end of the vdub/audi arguments now. It is like graduating, fucking rules.
I actually owned an audi for about 2 months… haha >:
Anyways, I know we’ve argued before, but I know the pain of having something perpetually fuck up over and over when you think that it is not possible for anything else to go wrong … sucks, but I am sure youll forget about it pretty quick. It is amazing how fast a working car makes you forget
isn’t it diesel?
aka You dont count.
my vw has yet to leave me stranded but it is always broken
and everyone I have known that owns an audi/VW has had more problems than the car is worth.
IMO these cars do not rank high on the reliability scale.
ladie drive car eatting auto transmissions at 35k?
the dead passat that is sitting in my driveway that decided to stop running with 67k?
golf with 20k that just decides to throw a check engine lights for fun…
the long list of shit always breakin on my car
and all of these cars be stock
don - now the windshield hood?..?
blah
i know EXACTLY what you mean…i hate driving my car hard at all, not because i worry about something going wrong, not even because i expect something to go wrong, but because i KNOW something’s going to go VERY VERY wrong…and cost me more money that i do not have…
sorry to hear though man, get rid of it and start over…not ALL cars are out to get you, dont let it discourage you completely away from your hobbie…
golfs that fall into trees.
corrados that have shit fly out in mid-shift.
:biglaugh:
I will start by saying that totally sucks Don.
I have had 14 German cars and none of them have ever been cheap to own but my God you have lived a nightmare.
(The only automatic I owned was a BMW)
I just love Audis and other German cars and can’t seem to find anything that compares to the overall feel, maybe its because I am into my German roots.
