:bs: I know the truth…
its so true. i just took my vr6 out for a little spin before its gone… god im going to miss that car.
and my brothers 2.8 30v a4, before 894589276 things broke on it he couldnt afford to fix? even better…
new car for the win.
Turn the key and drive.
damn. I will never buy a vw…
honda.
What I see is, just like you said, a 17 yr. old who saved his money and bought a car. A car that is not common to a 17 yr. old. It is a car that has expensive parts and its no secret. Thats why they were about 35k-38k new back in 97-99.
Sticker on my car was 26K-ish off the dealer lot back in 99, remember that automatics were a good 1000 dollars on that. A 17 year old kid probably shouldn’t be able to afford a car like that…but I feel at that age I had a good idea of how to shop for a good car and find one cheap, and I was a pretty cheapass that saved all his money religiously in hopes of getting a Nogaro B5 S4 (I didn’t know ennough when I started saving at 15 that I wouldn’t ever afford one). I had a really solid job from a young age, and I paid for over half the car in cash when i did buy it. I wasn’t a broke-ass taking out a giant loan.
I also see an automatic car that was modified with a bigger turbo, and homemade chip. You say it drove perfect and trouble free, but who knows if the chip or just the increased hp caused the tranny problems.
It’s no doubt that the increased torque killed my transmission, and in my post I took full blame for killing my transmission.
Then you have the Boces class fixing your car which you knew would be an issue, and you still did it. If you didn’t have the money, then why get it back and go buy a flip out head unit to celebrate? Priorities?
Priorities would normally be an good answer, but when you get a load of car audio for a lot cheaper then what it’s worth, and your car has been in a garage for months and you paid for all the parts…over that time period of not fixing the piece I would have been able to afford a head unit that cost 500 dollars. Keep in mind it was gone for a long time and I paid for all the parts right at the start.
Yes parts are expensive and these cars are not as reliable as Honda, Toyota, etc. I have an A4 that has required some of the same “maintenance” items and I also have a VW with an engine issue which you are well aware of. I can not go ape shit about the VW problems I have b/c it is a heavily modified car that has seen multiples of everything…
Again, it sucks, but things like this happen when you start messing with cars. Any cars.
I agree that it happens when you mess with cars. Which is why I’m now going to have a “fun” car and a “get to work” car. I am not perfect and I never said I handled things perfectly…in fact I admit I posted in anger. It’s part of the business. But when my best friend buys a new car and it breaks drastically all the time with nothing but a boost controller and gauge…I say fuck these cars. Your engine issue is not “VW reliability.” You did a lot to your 'raddo and I respect that, and I also know no matter the car, you WILL have issues when you dive deep like that. Look at newman’s 240. It was done right and it still had issues, and it’s considered to be made by a reliable manufacturer (Nissan). But when you have cars that are failing off the lots, and my car had tons of other issues (the transmission was the nail in the coffin) beforehand, I feel the need to express my opinion of these cars as negative.
I still love all you dubber guys, and I still love a lot of the cars. I honestly am not trying to be a dick either. I’m just fed up, and I don’t want to own one anymore.
I think this explains why German cars are a status symbol, it costs so much to own and maitain one.
When I was growing up German cars were the best; the good old days.
lol german engineering = no engineering. And my friends look @ me like I have a third arm when I state my views on them
sorry to hear it though man… we’ve all had our share of problem cars (although, not to that extent :P). But something nice and reliable for a DD… THEN sink the extra $$$ into your project. That way if it breaks… it’s not killing ya
Aww. I hate that you hate Audi’s now. Haha. I don’t care how much money I put in, or how many times the pos breaks, I love my car!
pics of the roof damage ?
It didnt hit the roof.
In the immortal words of JoesTypeS, “If you can’t afford to push your car off a cliff, then you can’t afford to mod your car…”
I understand it sucks but it all comes with the territory. Good luck.
Yeah, that’s some truthful shit. Thanks for the GL - I’m paying a close friend that knows his shit a few bucks just cuz I hate to look at it anymore.
Live and learn - DD and fun car time.
LOL* one thing I have learned is once you mod one car your sucked in for life. After my Jetta got totaled I told my self over and over again I would never do it again. The Audi was to stay stock. Now look at it…
I’ll bet you a $100 bucks no matter what you buy you will end up getting some goodies for it…
But good luck with what ever you end up getting…
 at everybody blaming the manufacturer for heavily modded cars breaking and sob stories about people being ride-less after their completely custom built project car breaks.
I agree with you a 101% on that… I guess people just dont understand… You gotta pay to play…
I had a 91 Jetta as a DD that had well over 200k on it. The only thing that broke on it after 2 years of beating on it, was the radiator rotted out. And my 92 that I had a ton of crap done to really never had anything major other then the heater core going…
I can honestly say out of all the German cars I have owned (81 Scirocco, 91 Jetta, 92 Jetta, and 01 A4) I have never had any major issues with… I also have owned a 91 Civic and my POS Montero and they are your basic shiters where the nickel and dime you. But thats a what a POS is for, a POS. It all comes down to maintenance and how you take care of them…
Just my .02
Heavily modified is a bolt-on turbo and chip these days?
You VW cats are nuts.
I am sympathetic, sounds like a general bummer all around. Not trying to start an argument, but this is, to me, a case in point for the proposition that domestics, especially OHV V-8’s are THE cars to mod. OEM replacement grade stuff is cheap, and readily available. Tons of performance parts. For example: I have been buying big-block Chevy parts recently. Currently, I am looking at pistons. It’s astonishing how many brands/types/grades of BBC pistons there are out there. Everything from a $200 OEM replacement set to an $800+ dollar set of custom forged pieces.
It is in the audi world;) Not to be a dick but I think alot of your problems came from the way you did things or went about things with the car (caving into your dad and taking it to boces is one of them). You’re just as much at fault for the problems you have had with your a4 as audi/the car is.
Umm yes…you’ve added a larger turbo and retuned the fuel maps the two major power controlling items on the car…that’s pretty heavily modified.
