I got my SR20 from them. Tranny was junk, head was junk (6 bent valves), turbo was junk ecu was soaked in water at some point and was junk. At the time they refused to do anything about it and i was a waste of my time to continue fighting them about it. Some good stories but i seem to come across more negatives like mine then good. Some people get lucky when they get the occasional stuff thats not junk. I wouldnt buy anything there again after my experience. Def. buyer beware make sure you do all your checking and if you have any concerns get there answers in writing.
guess this place isnt a good spot to go to :nono
hmotorsonline.com is a great place to work with got several motors through the shop there 4 motors and not a problem with a single one with the exception of one motor having a toasted clutch. Used motors is tough business anyways most of these motors were beat on, wrecked or stolen from their point of origin no matter were you get it from. Some business check and recheck to ensure quality. My main issue at jap star is they just told me to get lost and made a bs excuse after another. If you want to roll the dice you may get lucky you may not there prices ive noticed arent any better the some online retailers anyway. Hmotorsonline.com i def. second that from hybridtheory.
does jvg or synapse have any advise on where to buy subaru motors?
hmotorsonline has a fantastic reputation and they have proven themselves over and over again, and is well recomended all over the web. If it came down for me to pick a place for my motor, I wouldn’t think twice between the two. The prices after shipping are very similar as well.
Hmotors FTW.Great CS. I’m actaully wating for the B16 LSD cable trannys to come back in stock for my swap.
Yeah, if you look at ZC or D15B engines. japanstar charges about $850 + tax vs. Hmotors that charges $500 + shipping (~$250) so the price from hmotors will come out to be cheaper since they wont change tax + you get better customer service and more reliable engines. I wish we had Hmotors warehouse located in NY :sad
No you don’t because the tax you will pay would be more than the shipping most of the time.
When I bought my front conversion they had it up on ebay for $900 free shipping, when I called them up and told them that I’ll pick it up, they said $700, I paid cash too with no invoice. So we have our advantages by living so close. The one kid there tried selling me a set of strut tower braces and it was clearly from some other kind of car (4 bolt holes instead of 3) and they “confirmed” that it would fit my 240sx… :nono
Just got another gsr swap from hmotors this morning. Been buying from steve for years.
I really wish he did Nissan, Subaru and toyota stuff.
I have seen some nice Nissan clips at j-star before.
Or anyone for that matter?

my buddy rob manages it when the owner is busy or not there. they are really nice and willing to bargain with you. i got one of my ca18dets theres. still havent put it in but for a 17 year old motor its pretty damn clean. i say support your local guys cause its awesome that we even have a place like this. they have always been nice to me and i will continue to give them my buissness. plus they are just fun to bullshit with when im bored.
Robs funny, pretty soon his rsx will have every jdm part known to man on it lol.
Rob is mad funny, i remember when i first met him i had my Trans Am there…they were like :bowdown
He was telling me stories about him in his RSX(and no lisence), had me rofling :crackup
Who is who there?
There is the older guy, dealt with the actual money side of things (I’m guessing the owner?)
The young kid, he said he had a 240 at one time, I think he has a RSX now with intake and exhaust.
And some guy with a goatee (seemed pretty chill, knew alot more about parts than the young kid.
the older guy is the manager (mybe owner)
the kid with the RSX is ROb
and i dunno who the other guy is
the older guys name is dean.
He had a 90 240sx. that had a type X wing, and thats about it. bought it for his brother, but he sold it since. his rsx is nice
bought a GSR tranny from them with “30,000” miles on it and it was for the most part perfect…I know a ton of people locally that aren’t happy with their stuff though so I guess i just got lucky :ninja
