Japan Trip Group Buy

I have been pondering a trip to Japan for no sooner than next summer or fall and no later than spring of 2008 - largely influenced by my wallet, new job, and what is going on car-wise in Japan worth scheduling a trip around.

It occurred to me that there are others that have gone and some that would like to go and based on some knowledge of the travel industry and some good contacts maybe it is possible to put together a “group buy” type of trip where collectively we could access tours, discounted rates, etc., that we otherwise couldn’t get on our own.

For discussion purposes let’s start with a very general round trip budget around $3,000. So much of the costs are variable and too early to start discussing yet. The flights can be anywhere from about $1,000 - $1600 depending on departure city, dates, group rates, etc.

So, here are a few questions?(please be mature and helpful in your answers)

Are you interested in a group trip?
What events / dates / tours / experiences would you want take in?
Double occupancy acceptable?
Brining your significant other with you if you have one?
Would like to hook up with a temporary significant other while you are there if the previous doesn’t apply?
What is a realistic budget for you?
Your general expectations for a fun trip?
Would you be willing to put down a deposit (not with me but with a legit travel agency) to demonstrate your commitment about 3-6 months before the trip?

NOTE: This is not an officially endorsed NECC event…just me asking questions for now.

Here is a bit more info…

I had envisioned a variety of events that would appeal to a large group of people and then have a substantial amount of free time in between. The idea would be to have sort of a menu of activities from which people can pick. Just like a food menu you can eat as much or as little as you can stomach and afford but everyone is at the same restaurant.

I envisioned logical departure points (Halifax, Monteal, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver) which would be priced accordingly. We would have one or two core events that are part of the package and then a series of options/events that people can add onto their “tour” if they wish. Some will be entirely free excluding any travel while others may involved things like admissions.

Sample:

Day 1

  • Group welcome upon arrival
  • Free time to explore and deal with jet lag

Day 2

  • smaller activity option 1 (something like private visit a tuner shop??)
  • smaller activity option 2
  • free time and more jet lag stuff

Day 3 / 4
-core event including any travel time

Day 5

  • free time

Day 6
-smaller activity option 3
-smaller activity option 4

…and so on

you get the idea.

We could plan the trip around some significant motorsports event like the Nismo festival, Toko Auto Show, JGTCC event, etc., and then fill in the rest of the trip with cultural experiences, visits to smaller car related interestes and of course lots of free time for people especially those travelling with wives / girlfriends.

Well if you look into HIS you’ll be able to find round trips at about 7-9 hundred bucks.

Mind you it will included a stop over somewhere down in the states…but I mean why not if you could potentially save a few hundred, if not more, dollars.

Summer will be the most costly time to go, not only for the flight but in Japan as well.

The Japanese play tourist in their own country like I’ve never seen before.

For summer 2007 I’m hoping to go, so this would be perfect. Also for around a week. Except I don’t know how much car related jazz I’d be doing. I was mostly just planning on gorging myself on raw fish and sake, and exploring the incredible urban sprawl of downtown Tokyo. Visiting the HKS and Nissan headquarters would be on my to-do list.

Also, doing my best party boy impersonation for the people of Tokyo.

Save yourself thousands of dollars and simply eat at one of the hundreds of sushi joint here in Alberta.

If I wasn’t planning three other trips I’d totally be down.

I have to go to HK eventually, so i’ll see. But im going to CAli in march, so probably not this year. :partyman:

I’m not going just to eat sushi. I’m going to see Japan. It has almost nothing to do with food.

it’d be awesome seeing japan, so much culture in one dense little area.

Are you interested in a group trip? Hell yes
What events / dates / tours / experiences would you want take in? D1GP,street drifting in nagoya :D,and the main Nissan Headquarters.
Double occupancy acceptable? Dunno what you mean by that sorry
Brining your significant other with you if you have one? Nope
Would like to hook up with a temporary significant other while you are there if the previous doesn’t apply? Hell ya x2
What is a realistic budget for you? 2500-3000
Your general expectations for a fun trip? Watch some street drifting and d1gp if possible and just experience the life in japan!
Would you be willing to put down a deposit? If there is enough notice then for sure.

I tried making a trip to japan this april but people backed out and so I decided to go to school,I think it would be the best to go with other people that have the same interests.

Anyone have any other comments? Lots of views of this topic but limited responses so far.

If this does (and here’s hoping it does) go through, we should all go check this place out. I mean why not? Easy to get too(in tokyo that is), pristine older and newer Nissans, and it’s free!
