WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – A Williamsville man is facing numerous charges after after police say they found homemade bombs and bomb making material inside his apartment.
Duncan Badding of 66 Williamsburg Square Apartments was taken into custody on state charges including Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third degree and Reckless Endangerment in the First degree.
Williamsville Police were called to Badding’s apartment around 6:00 p.m. Wednesday after someone heard shots being fired. When police arrived they found Badding had set up a target practice in the front yard and was shooting a .22 caliber rifle. Inside Badding’s apartment, officers spotted additional firearms, ammunition and suspected home-made explosives.
Badding, who said in court he works for an insurance company, appeared before Amherst Town Justice Mark Farrell wearing a maroon uniform polo shirt and glasses. With head bowed he told the judge he was “doing this for research” to which Farrell replied," …research that can destroy several city blocks?" The suspect said in court that he studied chemistry in college and said that “I was doing it proper.”
And +1 to wondering what these “bomb making materials” were. Guy probably had one of those DIY exploding target kits you can legally buy at the gun center.
PS… Fry, you used the O word and bomb in the same post. Expect secret service to be showing up any minute. See ya on the news!
X2. could just be the media over reacting… At least the term “high power assault rifle” wasn’t used.
Someone called the police on me last week in Lancaster and said that I was shooting an assault rifle when I was just shooting the pistol. The police had a good laugh.
I’ve tweeted enough libertarian ideas that I’m sure I’m on a few lists.
I’m sure the media is over reacting as always (case in point) but you’ve got to be pretty touched in the head to doing target shooting in the front yard of an apartment building in a heavily populated suburb.
My guess is he didn’t have any harmful intentions, intending to blow stuff up for fun, but is too whacked to stop and think that maybe it’s not a good idea.
He’ll be labeled domestic terrorist and locked up without due process.
Definitely doesn’t smell like he was plotting anything sinister but thanks to our declaration of intangible war, people get locked up without tangible cause.
i dont get it. they have him in a holding center without bail for this? bad decision doing this in willyville? yeah.
if he were in the sticks it would be no big deal. hell, even if he was here in pendleton doing that in is back yard it would be no big deal.
give the guy a fine and tell him he cant do that in that area. tell him to move into a rural area or go to an acceptable location to do that kind of stuff.
The newest articles are back pedaling on the “big news” of this story. They’ve basically admitted the chemicals he had were harmless and legal but could potentially be used to make illegal explosives. Welcome to the average American household.
With that said, shooting within 500 feet of a residence is a huge no no anywhere you go in this country. I have nothing nice to say with the stupidity of those actions.
I dunno man. Just because he doesn’t seem to have ill intentions doesn’t mean he isn’t a danger to the public. Taking target practice in the backyard of an apartment building in a heavily populated area shows terrible judgement, a real lack of understanding of the consequences of his actions. Add to that a hard on for explosives and enough knowledge to make it work and you’ve got one really dangerous individual.
