hmmmm no, that was an accurate description of my last car (FX35) this doesn’t have the same motor as the 350z… it has a 5.0L v8 and sounds like any other v8 with an exhaust on it frankly haha (when you put an exhaust on it)

same with me, I never liked the avants or station wagons…stanced or not.

I really don’t mean to be a ‘hater’ I’m honestly curious as to what your goals are for the SUV. If you’re just doing some slight modifications to make it more ‘you’ that is more then a-ok in my book just reading through the thread I wasn’t sure what your long term goals are.

I drive domestic pos’s because they are the cheapest easiest cars for me to own. I purchased my Corvette when I was in college because I wanted to go fast. I have my Trans am because I want to do wheelies. I really hope to do a wheelie with 4 people in the car for fun. My C5 ran a 13.3 the first run out which I worked down to a 13.1 that night.

Your SUV runs a 13.7 which is very respectable for a large vehicle. That is what a Trailblazer SS runs, the Jeep SRT isn’t much ahead at 13.4.

I really like that 7 speed tranny, I bet it would wake up some with a good tune when they get into that ecu.

the fastest recorded time of a stock FX50 was 5.0 0-60 and a 3.5 1/4mile (but yeah, the averages are a 5.3 and a 13.7)
I don’t have any ridiculous goals for the FX50. Theres hardly any aftermarket for the vk v8 motors unless you go custom fab…which is a lot of money.
My plans are basically to make it more “me” in the sense of paint here, lowered here, some rims, etc. etc. Nothing too serious and no stupid BS bolt ons like on my last FX.
With some minor modification and some lighter wheels, I can probably squeeze a 5.1 0-60 and a 13.5 1/4 (my guess; I havent actually measured either yet) Which is pretty decent in my book.
I graduate next year and think I’m going to law or grad school right after…so not sure if I’m going to go crazy. Also, I feel like its a decent asset to hold on to.
About the ECU, theres hardly anything for the FX ECus…took 3 years for the 1st gen FX to get much attention, so I expect the same for the 2nd gen. If avail, I’ll do a light ECU tune like last time to wake it up a bit and crisp the shifts.

Instead of going apeshit on the FX50 for no reason, I was thinking of getting a second car to play around with…but still most likely wont do anything until I graduate or something…trying to save up more money now rather then spend a lot of it on my vehicle.
Still not sure if I want to do like a 240sx project…or a old big body sedan and bag/stance it… or just trade int he fx50 eventually and get an actual sports car. Idk… not really sure what I want to do right now to be honest…

some redic adv1 wheels I just shopped for fun (they cost like 10k haha)

some forgestar wheels… I didnt like them so I didnt even finish the chop job.
I dont like the mesh look on my car…

so yeah, idk. Maybe I will sell the GTRs…along with my winter 18’s that should cover half the cost of the ADV1’s…and use my OEM 21’s for the winter :slight_smile:
or I can be realistic…
Ill probably end up using my gtrs just because the wheels I like are too expensive otherwise,and im not going to buy cheap wheels just to get wheels either.
I do like the exterior stuff like that though.


anybody know of any other similar concave wheels? Most are the mesh design that I just dont like on my car…

Thats pretty much my plan. Coils, some exterior stuff, res delete, and get wheels in the future and use the wheels I have for now…

I think I want to go the vinyl route with the exterior trim pieces as opposed to permanently painting them…

I really don’t like all the alum and chrome everywhere it looks gaudy to me… chrome vents? chrome on the doors? alum window trim? roof rails? rear hatch pieces? too much. I like the satin black look because it still has a sheen to it, doesnt stand out too much like straight gloss would…and I think itll look good with my GTR wheels as well…

Year late update. Still have the FX50 - was going to get rid of it for a few cars but nothing really worked out and I ended up going to Law School at SUNY Buffalo.

then sold the GTR wheels…Painted the factory 21" wheels w/ cans of toyota touch-up paint. 3 coats paint, 2.5 coats clear (didn’t want it 100% glossy)

Just finished the tail lights yesterday - the bright red was bugging me; I think they came out a little too dark though. was trying to get a light smoke/euro-red look.

no go-fast mods though. there really isn’t anything and most likely will not be anything serious for the 5.0L. There’s tuning avail from UpRev Osiris now but it’s around $600-800 to tune and with no real mods available it’s kind of a waste of money. May do a reflash though, haven’t decided.

I don’t really have time for car-stuff while at school since I stay pretty busy. May sell the car this summer if I end up transferring to a NYC school.

Attended one of the Buffalo car meets/race night things last night after meeting a few local guys (went to his shop for the tails, Nic at 716Design)
never made it to the actual races though. (two guys decided to race on the highway in front of a trooper, so we jumped off the highway and everyone went home)

I think a few guys were there from this forum - somedude and his w12 a8 I think was for sure.

gave it a wash at the self-wash and a quick spray wax for the first time since last summer (doing it myself, I mean. I’ve been going to delta sonic once a month…if that…since I got here in august)
still deciding if I like the tail lights or not. May be a little too dark. The light still comes through fine, however.

Gives an idea of the tail color at different angles. Wish it was a bit lighter, but let’s see if it grows on me.
I also noticed the clear is coming off of my wheels - going to repaint them when I get home for the summer. - a tiny bit darker this time.

Followed you into UB yesterday, gave you a thumbs up. Sounded so fucking good.

Blue vw? (sorry super later response) Car looked dope. I had a muffler delete w/ straight pipes. I have a new his knockoff muffler now.

Got an HKS knockoff SS muffler, custom fit (it’s for the g37/370z but needed some work on the mid pipe to fit because of angle hanging) Sounds better than the muffler delete, more refined.

used the OEM tips because the ones that came with them were ricer 4" single walled ghetto ones and this looks cleaner.
