JB's so-called "Battle of the Imports" - June 13th

Is anyone here seriously considering going to the JB’s event on sunday?

I was looking at the event poster on their website and its changed, and not for our good of course. They only have two classes now:

  • Street Tuner Import
  • Pro Outlaw Import

I don’t know WHO in our import scene would actually have to go in the Outlaw class, based on their rules, other than maybe Conroy’s RX-7 “race car”.

For most of us the event seems like a waste of money. Entry is $50… we (imports) may get 3 or 4 runs if we’re lucky. And if anyone like Ron aka THEONE (~11.3), Mau (11.1s Supra), or the 11.4 Shelby show up, any of the rest of us running ~12.0 to 15+ can forget about it… The new rules for Street Tuner Import seem to be all-inclusive so just about anyone can go in that class. Anyone running slower than 12 seconds might as well not even show up.

At least at an SCC event, its all import (no mullets, no pushrods, etc.), you get 10-12 runs typically, and its a lot of fun whether you win or not. And it keeps you guessing… you may get your butt kicked in the Class A, but if you qualify 9th instead of 8th now all of a sudden you have a chance at WINNING the next class down, etc.

I am thinking about maaaaaayyybeeee going out on sunday, but I doubt it… the only thing some of us might have going for us if everyone is as doubtful and discouraged as I am, competition might be slim if no one really shows… all the better for those of us that do go. shrug

My interest is peaked, even if it is just a handful of races… track time none the less and to watch some races… Whats their web address?

Is this the right address: http://www.jbspowercentre.com ??

Update to above: looks like that is the right address, If I can swing my schedule I am seriously thinking about going. No plans to win anything but just to get some track and competitive track time in. All depends on my workload. BTW the times from last year didn’t look all that great, really good but not unobtainable, I think 12.9 was the winning import run unless I was reading the wrong one, other winners ran times in the 14’s.

Well I’d be definately more motivated to go if I knew there was going to be a fellow Nissan there (and specifically another 300ZXTT).

But Dan, are you sure you want to spend $50 and the time/cost/distance of the trip up vs. just going to one of your local Secret Street events (same as our Street Legals)?

You’re obviously getting very anxious to run… like me!

Did you notice Ron’s (Talon) 11.9xx runs on there? And keep in mind that they totally changed the categories this year. (Did you look at the 2004 poster on there?). All those categories you saw for 2003 are gone.

Yeah but like I said I would not expect a real chance of winning if those Talons show but I just like the thrill of the competition. The secret street type races are great to but there is something different when its an actual event. The only comp I have raced at was the SCC last year and the rush for me anyway is different.

I will know maybe later tonight if Sunday is even a possibility or not. It will also give an idea if anyone is new on the scene or going to bring out a new “ringer” to the SCC events, kind of a prelim or sneak a peak as to what the field looks like for this year.

Uh oh… look at this thread:

It looks like the Street Tuner class is BRACKET racing… meaning in theory you could lose to a 16 second Civic with an auto tranny.

Still on the fence but just because of work at this point, I am in the middle of a 1000 user email migration right now and if I don’t have enough done by Saturday night I would be a no go.

Add to that another shitty weather forecast… its showing 60% chance of rain on sunday so far… :frowning:

Are you guys keeping an eye on this thread over on 780tuners?

yeah I was just reading that this morning, its making me want to go more just for the shear morbid “have to look at the accident scene” kind of mentallity!

You’re Mullet comment didn’t go over so well  Struck a nerve??

Haha… the funny thing is, in theory, there shouldn’t even be any mullet-lovin’ domestic boys on that site in the first place (ie. V8Less). D’oh! But some hang out there anyway…

I guess the thing that gets people most, is that it is called Battle of the Imports, and 95% of the cars are Domestics. Maybe if they changed the title of it, that would clear some things up.

Cancelled…I also see there’s no re-sched for the SCC that sucks.

Yeah, no rescheduling for the SCC, but the battle of the imports is rescheduled for the 20th.

Exactly waid I said to myself a few minutes after posting that… Hmmm poor planning perhaps from V8less, they should have had an alternate day worked out with the track in the event of.

Bummer eh, I was actually almost convinced the other day to go tomorrow…

Man every time I want to go to drag race or auto-x, something comes up to cancel it for one reason or another. D’oh!

I only have so many free weekends this summer… am I not meant to race this season??! AARRGGGHHH!!

I hear ya… So is anyone going to make an appearence this weekend (june 20)?

I am pretty certain I am going to go, but it is only Tuesday, the weather looks better, not great but perhaps it will hold out.

…Dan

I’ll be autoxing, so Jim Bell can kiss my ass. He got my $50 last year, never again.

Not sure yet. Its $50 and we’re not gauranteed to get more than 3-4 runs at most the whole day. And the classes suck. I don’t want to bracket race, but I don’t want to go into an open outlaw class either. Maybe I’ll just spend $20 some friday night at the street legals instead.

The auto-x is sounding kind of appealing. That’s the RX-7 Club’s event, isn’t it? Maybe I’ll have to give my buddy Richard a call about that.

Can anyone still get in on the Auto X ? is the info on on 780 Tuners?
