That is just retarded. No 17yr old is worth $61 million. That is stupid beyond belief. Each parent should get $1 mil each, and even that is too much money.

im sure if ur children died in the hands of ford motor company u would think otherwise
god
if i ever have children
and they turn out like me
id be happy if they died due to someone elses mistake
When will people realize SUVs are NOT sports cars.
ummm…you drive a vehicle with high center of gravity…you drive it like its a sports car…turn sharply…it rolls over…because Newton’s Laws of Physics win out…it must be Ford’s fault…
edit: i actually re-read the article…again must be Ford’s fault for building a truck that’s so confortable it makes you fall asleep at the wheel while driving…
when juries stop awarding them millions of dollars…
In a statement, Ford expressed its condolences to Hall’s family, but said the accident occurred when the driver of the Explorer fell asleep at the wheel.
Wow.
"In the Florida case, teenager Lance Hall was a passenger in the Explorer his friend was driving when it flipped over on Alligator Alley between Naples and Miami in 1997.
Ford engineers testified during the trial that they knew in 1989 that the vehicle’s chassis needed to be widened and lowered."

I don’t know florida law and NO ONE on here knows the details of the accident…but I fail to see how ford could have been sued here. If anyone is to blame it’s the judge, not the jury. As soon as a case is presented to the jury they have to ASSUME that the CLAIM has merit. So, there must be details not listed in the story
if the jury was convinced that it was the tires that blew out then im sure there was some good evidence, did the driver die? if evetyone died then whos to say it was cause he fell asleep?
so much of what “ford engineers said…” is taken out of context in these cases. i know because i used to be one there. secondly its an SUV, its tall, its top heavy, if you want to beat physics drive a mustang and then sue when you wrap it around a tree at 90mph because ford didnt make it handle as good as an F1 car.
HOLY SHIT NO WAY!!!
Like, OMG
way to be an idiot…clearly the obvious needed to be pointed out, b/c if it didn’t there would be no need for the “OMG how stupid can people be” comments
right because when a person falls asleep behind the wheel of ANY OTHER SUV they will wake up in they comfy bed at mommys house.
GET FUCKING REAL
Ford Explorers are the only trucks that roll over when you drive them into a ditch doing 60
Lets assume the driver DID NOT fall asleep… ok… THEN WHAT THE FUCK WAS HE DOING TO FLIP A FUCKING TRUCK??
If there was a structural or drivetrain failure that was not maintenance related and cause the accident then fine… verdict stands… in any other case it is complete bullshit
