Meh, that is why I pick and choose what games I buy. I have yet to purchase a game I don’t like. Also love to just buy used, there are very few games that I feel I need to have right away.

Just read through the jungleflasher tutorial and it sounds like the early liteon drives require an extractor kit (about $25 bucks), then there was a big batch of liteon that could you could read the keys right off the sata port, and in Aug 09 some new liteons started shipping that aren’t 100% support via any key extract method.
So those of you thinking about just getting a new box from walmart may be SOL, at least until these latest liteon’s get cracked.

It’s really not that big a part of my life that I want to piss away $100-$150 away just because I can’t play for a little while. I’d rather just wait a week or so for the new firmware since there’s a good chance mine won’t get banned that way.

I think this is pretty funny cause you me and Rob all got ours flashed around the same time frame if I’m not mistaken and now were all banned within a week… lol

I’m 99% sure it’s a problem with all versions of the ixtreme firmware. c4eva pretty much admitted that when he said the new version of ixtreme he’s working on, called ixtreme LT or “light touch”, will have the bare minimum differences with stock firmware and will stop the bans.
Part of that dashboard update we all installed a couple weeks ago had some sort of test that gets run on the DVD drive and it flags you for banning. Tons of people have reported hearing the drive go through this test because it’s a sound the drive doesn’t normally make just reading disks.
It sounds like they aren’t willing to ban on a single fail, probably for fear of banning legit consoles. So it gets logged and soon enough the error 54424 gets set in the support system and the next time it fails the check bam, ban hammer.
It’s pretty clear that they are spooling the bans, probably to avoid overwhelming their tech support lines with script kiddies who modded with no clue of the consequences.

I remember when I had the original Xbox with the Xecuter chip and I had to press the “eject” button to turn the chip off to play xbox live and when I just hit the “power” button it activated the mod chip. I accidentally played xbox live with the mod chip activated and not even 5 mins later during halo 2 I got banned. Interesting how quickly Microsoft comes up with these solutions. IMO… It will always be a constant battle with the hackers getting the upper hand for a while until Microsoft does and vice versa.
I also remember before live I was playing on game spy, is this even possible anymore… maybe an alternative for banned consoles?
yea the newer liteon drives dont need the kit/spear to read the key. you would just need the normal sata chipset. but the earlier versions of the liteon you would need the kit and spear to be able to read the key. a lot of the xboxs that are being sold now still have the older liteon drives. i just bought one last week and it still has the older liteon drive in it. hopefully c4eva releases the new firmware soon so i can flash it already. my main xbox did get banned as well, but it was worth it
