God forbid it happens…but what happens when the first death occurs at one of the many “track days” being held?
I know that most of us have preventive practices to encourage safety while on the track. At the same time, I wonder if anyone/community has any preemptive measures to dealing with the situation when it comes?
well hey, in all reality, it is a very likely scenario, i mean, all that would need to happen is something between the steering wheel, and the front tires to come loose, fall off, or break while someone’s going around a corner at higher speeds. a clutch could fail catastrophically and possibly jam up the tranny going around a corner, hell, someone could even just sneeze, and turn into someone else. i mean, anything is possible, even if one of these scenarios isn’t very likely.
Well it’s not something anyone wants to think about, in fact, at the track it should be the furthest thing from your mind. But tracks as well as most events themselves have insurance policies in place for situations like that.
how many track days have either of you attended, let alone driven in?
yes, there is always some degree of assumed risk, but - at least for the days that I run with MTD - that risk is less than driving on the highway with handicapped drivers
the track we use, Dunnville, is extremely safe. the run-offs are wide and forgiving. we black flag drivers who are not handling themselves appropriately. we check cars quickly to make sure shit is in good order.
yes, as you say, “anything can happen”
an asteroid could hit the track… i’m sure someone could die then
You pay to attend, you assume responsibility for yourself. Everyone does…
What happens if you die on your own street where you live? You die. Thats about it. If you die, all your concerns are gone, why would you be concerned about dieing. You should be HAPPY to die.
