Just wondering about a motor price from the junk yard

At Buffalo Salvage (I believe that is what it is called) on Hertel they have two VW’s there with the VR6 motors in them. They will charge $400 for the motor including the price of them dropping it. Do you think that is reasonable or not?
The thing is milage unknown, running condition unknown.
Whats your opinion?

how much would it cost you (parts) to freshen it up?

How much would it cost you to buy a used motor from a private party?

Maby about $200 to freshen up.

Dunno about getting one from a private party.
Where would be a good place to look?

I am looking to get a spare that I can do all of my modifications to and than just drop it in, inplace of the one that is in my car now.

car-part.com

nationwide junkyard search, will allow you to compare market pricing

I think I payed $350 for a 4 cylinder longblock from them a couple years ago. It was still in the car and they took me back to it, put some gas in the tank and gave it a jump so I could hear it run.

Might be worth your time to see if they still do this for people. I wouldn’t say $400 is outrageous either.

$200 to freshen up a vr? good luck

RCV bushings, idler pulley, oil change, air filter, done. :mamoru:

lol, im thinking a gasket ring & bearing set will be more then $200… but okay.

dont forget timing chains, guides, clutch and tob while youre in there, the pistons are a bitch to get back in there, so have fun breaking rings, not to mention machine work, ect ect…

if you really want to do this pm either jeagermaister or osiris, they know a vr like the back of their hand

I know additional parts will be expencive but I figured all new gaskets and the Tchains are a necessity first off to start with.
What I plan on doing is cams, lifters, valve springs, valves, and possibly pistons. To start with. Than a port and polish of both the upper and lower intake manifolds.
I know this isn’t cheep which is why this isn’t going to take place anytime soon cause I need a good paying job first.
Thank you for your oppinions, and advice.

or get a new car?

im with him, or at least get your bumper fixed, cause that peice of wood (that you call a bumper) is funny as hell.

^ Yo dude you drive an escort with a shot trans and window tint on your turn signals I dont think you can talk. LOL

i would honestly take a 95 anything vw of any condition over a zx2, end of story
