Ka 24de Exhaust gas return pipe

I have a question: There is the 1/2 inch pipe going from exhaust mainfold back to the air intake system. What is its purpose, and can I just remove it if it’s cracked, and what will actually change then? Thanx!

thats just the egr its for emissions, if its cracked like mine you can just get a block off plate so it wont leak {off ebay}. mine was also cracked and it passed emissions with flying colors still.

So, I can block it, and it won’t affect anything, like gas/meilage for exmpl?

blocking it off will likly affect your fuel economy but not by too much. EGR is used so that your car can use les fuel without burning lean. It basically introduces a small amount usless inert exhaust air so that less oxygen will flow into the cylinder at part throttle. Less oxyegen = less fuel. How much difference it will make I cannot tell you but given the age of the design I’ll say not a whole lot. I suspect that the KA does not use very much EGR in the first place. Your emissions might or might not take a hit initially but the ECU will compensate by using more fuel.
My best guess:you might loose 5% fuel economy but it probably would not affect you more than having your headlights up on the highway.

Thanx, so, that pipe actually returns air, it is not a pressure sensor?

you will more than likely fail nox on an emission test without the egr system on a ka by a significant amount.
I tried once.
even with running 50% methyl hydrate and retarding the timing, could not get it the nox levels low enough.
hacked an egr pipe back in, and passed in spades with low nox levels

Yep, I guess I’ll have to do same:) My emission’s due sooon:(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((
