was workin on the car a bit, letting it run while doing so just because i hadn’t run it in a while…and couldn’t resist taking it for a quick spin…
coming down X road, a red cobalt SS comes flyin’ by me and slows down…obviously waiting for me to get next to him. roll down the window, say hi, guy seemed pretty cool…said he’s on here, but not with that car…so i dont know who he is, i’m sure he’ll post later. we do a roll or two, he had to beep since i still haven’t hooked my horn back up…did i think 2 rolls from maybe 25 or 30…and both times i missed 3rd :bloated: but both times i pulled him so hard it didn’t matter…i’d say by 65ish i had 2 cars…and i didn’t feel like going much faster than that in residential areas so i let off…
we caught a light too…and despite my good launch, i still couldn’t keep traction for the life of me once i laid into it…even with the spinning though, i stayed next to him, and once i hooked and got into second he was gone…
 to a cool guy and some good runs…was a nice way to start the season for me…
BUT now i have a question/concern…
i did a bit of homework after the run…and a stock cobalt ss runs maybe mid 14’s with a really good driver…and a stock z32 tt runs very high 13’s with a very good driver…so putting 2 cars or so on him between 30mph and 60ish should sound right…right?
wrong…a stock z32 tt puts down 250whp…my car put down 190whp…so no chance in hell i should have been running that close to what a stock tt does…unless…
i did recently finish up my exhaust…and in doing so realized how many horrible exhaust leaks i had…i mean the worst i could ever imagine…which were causing the O2 sensor to read so wrong, which in turn was causing the car to run richer than imaginable…it no longer does so, and rather than losing power at 5500rpm, i’m not holding power all the way through 7k rpm like i should…
i just dont understand the severity of running too rich…i never would have imagined that it would cause me to lose so much power, so can somebody maybe explain to me why my car is running so good now? lol
Are you sure it was the Supercharged one? Because there are 2 different version. The Non-Supercharged has a lower profile spoiler and polished rims. If you want to make sure and verify that you can take a SS supercharged Ill be more than happy to give you a run sometime today. A supercharged one should have taken you pretty bad if you only make about 190whp. Supercharged ones that are bone stock are belting out around 210-230. So if you wanna have some fun and make sure you can take one let me know
You will lose power running rich. You will also have poor gas mileage and burn up your cats quicker. But its better then running lean whick will cause excess heat in the cylinders and melt something or blow up the motor.
this thing sounded like it had a super charger…said SS all over the place, and had the somewhat bigger wing with the sharper angles / more boxy shape i guess you could say…not the small one i see on most cobalt’s…
hopefully the guy will come on here and post and let us know…
and i’d love to do another run tonight…you still stock?
edit:
plus we have to remember…when i had the car dynod, it cut off power at 5500rpm, was running stupid rich, and according to how mike described how the car boosted, it seems as if it was in safety boost…none of which are problems for me any more…
All i have is an Intake, which on the cobalt forums was MAYBE another 5 hp over stock, I have no idea what my car has power wise, I never dyno’d it but sure Ill do a run or 2 with ya. Ill be up at mighty between 3 and 4…gotta wash the car…just went through the mud with it
The kid is my friend, who helped push out your car that night lol. Anyways he signed up and his username is RedSSNA. It was an N/A 2.4L SS. With a good driver and good traction it’ll run at 15.0-1 stock. 05orangeSS and tkklemon will know him cause he did some runs with you guys on the way home that one night.
Anyways I was the retard behind you two in the red escape. Yeah I stood no chance but thumbs up to some good runs. You both had some mad wheel spin on that light race. His account is awaiting activiation but if anyone wants some runs you can PM or me.
Honestly, I was glad they did this… because an SS without the supercharger and obnoxious wing would be the perfect DD for me. As long as the LSD is still there, anyway.
no that’s not it…it’s boosting all the way and pretty quick too…but i’m still convinced my problem lies in my compression…
i think the Z home tech pages say that 150’s is a good TT stock for compression…and the minumum one should drive with is 125psi with no any two cylinders being more than 10psi or so difference…and i have about 123 to 125 psi across the board…cept for cylinder 5 which is around 115psi i think…
i think that 25psi below stock per cylinder on average will definitely kill your power output…
oh and by the way…i did get a few runs in tonight with a real supercharged cobalt SS…and it was really really really close…i would pull a foot or two, then shift and he’d pull a few feet…good times…
…until my rear wiper scared the shit outta me by flying up…
