Knockouts, a hair salon chain planning about 450 stores nationally, will open a store on Wolf Road in Colonie.
The chain’s salons feature a boxing and martial-arts theme. They also feature skimpily dressed, attractive female hairdressers.
“The media calls us the ‘Hooters of Haircutting,’” said Tom Friday, founder and CEO of the Texas-based chain.
The Wolf Road store, expected to open in about a month, will be the first Knockouts in New York state.
Friday founded the chain in 2002 and began franchising in 2005. Knockouts offers massage and waxing services as well.
In Colonie, the top-of-the-line “heavyweight” haircut will cost about $25, and features two shampoos, two massages, and, of course, a haircut.
Friday conceded that the chain hires hairdressers based on their looks, but added that they also have to have scissor skills.
“If his hair gets trashed, he’s not coming back,” Friday said.
Will a Hooters-like hair salon work in the Capital Region? Maybe not. After all, the area’s only Hooters, at Crossgates Mall, closed in 2007.
