Well, As @FourEyed can attest to, I have a ton of ATV / Sled / Dirtbike projects going on ALL the time.
I figure I’ll share my finding’s / Learning here.
First up 2011 Can am 800xxc
Motor was hydolocked about 2 years ago. I was with him. I offered to tow him back home and we will change fluids. The air box was full, intake was full, ect. He decied to pull the drain plug until he seen oil and put it back in. Shot water out of both cylinders.
He then rode about 5 miles home.
Next day flushed oils and filter 5-6 times until no trace of milky oil was there. About a week after that, we ride to get gas. He is telling me the motor smells hot. so we decided to head back to the shop. Cross the street and get on the tracks, the motor stops.
Guess who forgot to tighten his drain plug?? (Him, not me) At this point the wheeler is still under full warranty. Takes it to the dealer, and says IDK what happened.
The dealer put oil in the motor turned it over by hand. compression and leakdown tested it. Told him it was fine!! randomly the motor made noise. Cam chain tensioner failed once, I caught that in time. Last ride he complied about more motor noise. Nothing at idle, Nothing at WOT. Only under a specific load could I replicate the noise.
He ask me to look at it… again. I pull the oil filter , let it drain. Well it wasn’t pretty. Noting I could do in frame.
Motor is out.
Beer and ready to pull the fly wheel
Sparkly stuff
Split the cases…
Pulled the crank, pull the strange rods off. Not bad, but notice the rods look like they broke apart.
Take the other rod off and the bearings are suck to the crank.
This is where I stand. He Needs to decide what he wants to do with the motor.
Next up
01 Honda Stupid F*cking rancher
Stuck In reverse. The motors in these are sideways. So rather than pulling the auto clutch cover on the left side, I get to pull the cover off the “front” of the motor.
He was quoted $2k ish to rebuild the trans mission. lol
Found this laying here.
Its a $5.28 part. I’m hoping this is the problem.
What a pain this was. Needed to pull the auto clutch, the clutch basket and a few other things. The nut stripped itself off of the auto clutch shaft that goes into. the trans. I had to order a 18mmx1.0 die to fix it.
Everything seems to be shifting correctly now.
Finished up the rancher last night and the guy came and got it. He was extremely happy seeing he was quoted $2000ish to repair it. I put $50 in parts on it.
Next 04 Rev 600 H.O.
Clutching issue.
Pulled the clutch to find a broken arm, and 2 rollers that have flat spots on them.
Should be an hour tops fix…
Wrong. Its all aftermarket and nothing matches up to OEM. $300+ To swap back to OEM.
After a long search I found the correct kit to replace it.
Broken parts yay
Friends 08 MXZ 800R
I rode it and it did not feel like a 800 should to me. It was sluggish. We ordered a “maintenance kit” for the primary.
Come to find out , it horribly needed it. The center bushing was gone. The others where rather beat up.
Installed new bushings, Buttons and pins.
This really woke the sled up. The skis want to be up all the time.
He was compiling of a vibration . Pretty sure I could the problem.

Yes the rod ends are supposed to be like that. These where pictures I was sharing with him to explain what was going on.
So is this just something you do for buddies or an actual business? Wouldn’t mind paying someone to look at the clutching on my 600 SDI. Probably wait till next season though.
This is just random stuff I do on the side. I work two jobs now, and do this in my free time. I enjoy doing this and learning new things in the process
Yay, fun. This is a friend’s that is running his family’s dairy farm now. I’m going to attempt JB Weld this to get it back his asap as he uses it on the farm.
