Laptop getting kicked off the internet?

So my girlfriend has a Gateway laptop running Windows XP that just refuses to stay connected to our wireless internet. I have Time Warner cable, with a NetGear router (the most ballin’ one Radioshack had at the time). The connection is password protected, so to the best of my knowledge the MAX users on it at once is 2. I’ve tried to setup networks for it, reseting everything…no go. Sometimes it connects for 20 minutes…other times it connects for hours. I just have no clue what I could do…I’m on like my 9th page of google results. Ideas?

So it connects and gets an ip address fine? Works ok after it disconnects and you re-connect?

update the drivers for the miniPCI wifi card…

I have seen a bunch of these little wifi cards flake out, they are a 15 dollar item on the internet and easy to replace.

I would boot to an ubuntu live cd to make sure that it isn’t a windows problem before you go buying anything else though.

hackers

Yes & Yes

ONOES!

How do I do both of these things? I know…I’m computer retarded.

Gateway sucks as far as support is concerned. I hate their driver site…

Do a windows update, and choose custom…check the hardware section and see if there is any driver updates for your wireless card.

or possibly a firmware update for the router
